Director, Regulatory Response and Examination Management

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the organization's response to inquiries from regulators, audits, examinations, subpoenas, data requests, and enforcement actions impacting solar asset management operations and project portfolios.

• Facilitate coordination between the company, regulatory bodies, external counsel, and internal stakeholders during examinations.

• Develop and implement examination response plans, including timelines, strategies for document production, coordination with subject-matter experts, and escalation protocols.

• Act as a liaison with regulators and external counsel to ensure communication is consistent, accurate, and timely.

• Monitor the status of examinations, findings, and remediation across the solar asset portfolio and maintain a centralized log of examinations.

• Collaborate with Legal, Asset Management, Engineering, Finance, and Operations to collect, validate, and produce necessary data and documentation.

• Draft and review formal responses to regulatory inquiries, data requests, and correspondence.

• Uphold document management protocols and maintain privilege logs.

• Establish and sustain a regulatory examination readiness program, which includes mock audits, response playbooks, and staff training.

• Keep abreast of regulatory requirements related to solar generation assets, interconnection compliance, RPS/REC programs, tax equity structures, and market participation regulations.

• Analyze examination trends and root causes to initiate corrective actions and process enhancements.

• Support the development of policies, procedures, and internal controls aimed at minimizing regulatory risk.

• Prepare briefings for executives and board members regarding examination status, findings, and risk mitigation strategies.

• Provide counsel to senior leadership on regulatory risk implications for acquisitions, financing, and portfolio transactions.

• Lead and mentor a team of regulatory analysts and specialists.

• Collaborate with external counsel, consultants, and industry associations on regulatory strategy and examination trends.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of experience managing relationships with and responding to third-party regulators and investors, encompassing state regulatory agencies, federal agencies, examination bodies, and institutional investors or capital partners.

• Proven experience in managing multi-jurisdiction regulatory response or examination programs with concurrent matters, independent scopes, and deadlines.

• Demonstrated ability to design, enhance, and scale regulatory response processes.

• Experience in managing large-scale document collection and production across various source systems and business units.

• A strong capacity to drive cross-functional accountability without direct authority.

• Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to produce first drafts suitable for legal and compliance review.

• Sound judgment in handling confidential, privileged, and sensitive materials.

• Preferred experience in mortgage servicing, consumer finance, solar finance, or another highly regulated consumer-facing sector.

• Familiarity with state licensing examinations and audit readiness.

• Knowledge of information request and subpoena response processes.

• Experience in managing outside counsel relationships and overseeing external legal expenditures.

• A JD is not mandatory.

• Must be able to work remotely.

• Successful completion of a post-offer/pre-placement drug test and medical examination if required for the role.

• Verification of information and qualifications provided during the selection process prior to placement.
