This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Develop and spearhead the regulatory legal strategy of the Company to support commercialization, expansion of manufacturing, project deployment, and market growth.
• Identify and address regulatory risks while influencing emerging policy trends.
• Provide guidance on state and federal environmental laws and ensure regulatory compliance for manufacturing operations.
• Offer legal assistance for air permitting and environmental approvals related to manufacturing facilities and customer deployments.
• Lead the legal strategy concerning product regulatory requirements, certifications, emissions standards, and evolving frameworks like NERC.
• Advise on utility regulation, interconnection necessities, tariffs, and energy market regulations that affect distributed generation projects.
• Facilitate project development and siting by pinpointing regulatory risks and permitting obligations.
• Monitor and analyze federal, state, and local legislation, regulations, and policy changes impacting distributed energy resources.
• Counsel business leaders on the legal ramifications of their decisions.
• Act as the legal lead on issues such as Foreign Entity of Concern, domestic content, and other supply chain regulatory obligations.
• Collaborate with Government Affairs on legislative and regulatory advocacy and engage with agencies, policymakers, and industry organizations.
• Oversee outside counsel and consultants as necessary.
• Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Commercial, Project Development, Finance, and Government Affairs teams.
• J.D. preferred.
• Active membership in a minimum of one U.S. state bar.
• Director: 15+ years of legal experience; Senior Director: 20+ years.
• Extensive experience in advising on environmental, energy, utility, or regulatory law.
• Strong expertise in environmental permitting, energy regulation, and administrative law.
• Familiarity with the Inflation Reduction Act, including ITC, FEOC, and domestic content mandates.
• Experience in advising technology, manufacturing, infrastructure, or energy companies is preferred.
• Excellent judgment and business insight.
