This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• Define and spearhead Routeware’s long-term UX strategy across the entire product portfolio, implementing a clear prioritization framework for initial investments.
• Foster the integration of visual language, interaction patterns, and information architecture among both acquired and native products.
• Develop and maintain a scalable design system (including components, tokens, patterns, and accessibility primitives) for use by all product squads.
• Establish UX, UI, and accessibility standards (minimum WCAG 2.2 AA) along with the governance necessary to uphold them as products evolve.
• Integrate UX into our agile process: discovery, research, prototyping, validation, and release readiness — ensuring it does not become a bottleneck.
• Define collaboration processes among PMs, engineers, and designers at each stage, incorporating lightweight rituals such as design reviews, critiques, and handoffs.
• Directly manage and develop our current UX designer. Mentor, support, and remove obstacles. Create a hiring plan and organizational design as the team expands.
• Establish streamlined, scalable research practices that the team can implement: usability testing, journey mapping, and synthesis of customer feedback.
• Define and oversee UX-specific success metrics (task completion, time-to-value, usability scores, onboarding friction). Co-manage product adoption and retention metrics with the Product team, driving continuous UX enhancements through experimentation.
• Utilize AI tools proficiently to expedite the team’s work — including prototyping (Figma AI, v0, and similar), research synthesis, content generation, and design quality assurance.
• 8+ years of experience in UX, Product Design, or Human-Centered Design, showcasing progressive scope and impact.
• Proven experience in leading or mentoring designers; comfortable in a player-coach role with at least one direct report.
• Demonstrated success in establishing or significantly enhancing a UX function — such as design systems, research practices, or design operations — within a SaaS context.
• Strong portfolio that illustrates systems thinking, multi-product or multi-platform work, and tangible UX outcomes.
• Profound expertise across UX disciplines: research, information architecture, interaction design, accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA), and usability testing.
• Hands-on expertise in Figma.
• Working familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and contemporary product analytics tools.
• Proven experience using AI tools (Figma AI, v0, ChatGPT, research synthesis tools, etc.) to enhance design workflows.
• Excellent communication skills with both technical and executive audiences.
• Comprehensive benefits package (medical with HSA option, vision, dental, and life insurance)
• Paid parental leave
• Medical and Dependent FSA
• 401K matching
• Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO)
• Ten company holidays
• 1 Volunteer day
• Summer Fridays
