Director of Technology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement the company's technological vision and strategic roadmap.

• Collaborate with executive leadership to ensure technology investments align with business objectives.

• Direct technology choices that foster innovation, scalability, security, and sustainable growth.

• Oversee technology budgets, manage vendor relationships, and coordinate resource planning.

• Create project plans, timelines, and delivery roadmaps to ensure initiatives stay on course.

• Lead, mentor, and cultivate a high-performing software engineering team.

• Promote a culture of innovation, teamwork, accountability, and continuous enhancement.

• Engage directly in software development by participating in architecture design, coding, technical reviews, and pull requests.

• Set engineering best practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, and DevOps excellence.

• Guarantee that our platforms are secure, reliable, scalable, and high-performing.

• Work closely with business and clinical leaders to convert ideas into impactful technological solutions.

• Assist in prioritizing product investments based on business value and customer impact.

• Lead sprint planning, roadmap execution, and accountability for delivery.

• Integrate customer and provider feedback into product enhancements.

• Own Backpack's cybersecurity strategy and its security roadmap.

• Ensure adherence to HIPAA and healthcare security standards.

• Spearhead vulnerability management, incident response planning, and security governance.

• Collaborate with auditors and third-party vendors on compliance efforts.

• Advocate for secure software development within the engineering organization.

• Direct internal IT operations, SaaS administration, infrastructure, endpoint management, and technology support.

• Ensure that employees have secure and reliable technology to perform at their best.

• Develop policies and standards that promote operational excellence.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering.

• 3+ years of experience in leading engineering teams or technology organizations.

• Experience in roles such as Director of Technology, Head of Engineering, Engineering Manager, Principal Engineer, CTO, or other similar leadership positions.

• Background in high-growth SaaS, healthcare technology, or digital health sectors.

• Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional initiatives and technical teams.

• You should possess experience with many of the following:

• Modern web application frameworks

• API development and system integrations

• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

• Relational and NoSQL databases

• DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native architectures

• Information security and compliance frameworks

• AI and Large Language Model (LLM) technologies

• Writing and reviewing production-quality code
