Director of Research and Development

📋 Description

• Take charge of platform and product engineering for the Total Service Cloud ERP utilizing TypeScript/Node, React, Express, Drizzle ORM on PostgreSQL, Vite, Vitest, and Playwright.

• Ensure functional consistency between the legacy desktop ERP and cloud platform covering Payroll, AR, AP, GL, Job Cost, Inventory, Dispatch, Sales, Purchasing, Reporting, and Banking.

• Maintain accuracy for general-ledger posting and reversals, payroll tax wage bases, US and Canadian tax compliance, multi-tenant isolation, and permission enforcement.

• Develop and implement ERP-wide UX standards.

• Preserve the continuity of legacy systems, including the Java/Spring service layer and VB6 desktop ERP.

• Oversee cloud architecture and operations across Azure and AWS for a multi-tenant customer fleet.

• Manage CI/CD processes, blue-green UAT, masked databases, deployment gates, and slot-swap workflows.

• Control cloud expenditure, forecasting, and optimization backlog.

• Lead production incident responses, root-cause analyses, fleet-wide architectural decisions, and uptime accountability.

• Supervise the legacy-to-cloud migration program, which includes tenant matrices, Python/SQL Server to PostgreSQL ETL, schema canonicalization, and data fidelity reconciliation.

• Manage customer production imports, go-lives, and escalation of migration data challenges.

• Coordinate the decommissioning strategy for the legacy platform.

• Design and operate the multi-agent development pipeline from ClickUp through Claude Code to GitHub PR.

• Be accountable for the outcomes of AI-assisted outputs and support internal automation, QA triage, and developer tooling experiments.

• Represent the business unit on AI initiatives within the SDLC, both internally and across Constellation group companies.

• Guide the engineering team through standups, technical syncs, specifications, task allocation, reviews, and merge/release gatekeeping.

• Direct QA and contractor recruitment and resource allocation.

• Conduct customer-facing onboarding and go-live sessions for designated accounts.

• Report R&D and AI projects to Jonas/Constellation and engage in cross-business-unit technical discussions.

• Assess vendors and influence business-unit IT, security, and tenancy decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive senior full-stack engineering expertise in TypeScript/Node, React, Express, and an ORM for PostgreSQL, with proven ownership of a production application at a significant scale.

• Strong backend correctness discipline in financial or accounting fields such as GL, AR/AP, payroll, or tax.

• Knowledge of multi-tenant SaaS security, including authorization and tenant isolation.

• Significant cloud engineering experience with Azure and/or AWS.

• Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code, secrets and identity management, and cloud cost optimization.

• Experience in data migration and ETL at fleet scale, including relational-to-relational migration, schema canonicalization, and reconciliation.

• Familiarity with DevOps and release engineering, including CI/CD, blue-green or slot-based deployments, migration safety, and production incident response.

• Practical experience with LLM agents or AI-assisted development, demonstrating sound judgment regarding appropriate applications.

• Technical leadership background, including mentoring engineers, establishing standards, gatekeeping releases, and representing engineering to executives and clients.

• Comfort with maintaining legacy code while facilitating its replacement.

• Preferred experience in field-service, elevator, door, or HVAC ERP domains.

• Preference for experience within the Jonas Software / Constellation operating model.

• Mobile release engineering experience, including Android, Play Console, signing and keystore management, and crash observability is preferred.

• Preferred background in Java or Java/Android maintenance.

• Familiarity with enterprise identity and tenancy administration, including Entra/SSO, Microsoft 365, and email security tools is preferred.

• .NET/C# knowledge for auxiliary services is preferred.
