This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• As a key member of the SLS leadership team, play a vital role in guiding the growth of the SLS business unit.
• Serve as a project manager overseeing large-scale projects that involve services from various business units within Discovery.
• Track and analyze revenue generated by the SLS project management group.
• Ensure Operational Excellence & Harmonization: Promote clear communication, encourage collaboration, and maintain shared accountability among Operational Site Leaders, Project Managers, Laboratory Managers, Sample Management, Pathologists, QA, and IT.
• Collaborate closely with operational site leaders to design and implement an organizational project management structure across the company.
• Standardize and harmonize processes for project initiation, monitoring, deliverable provision, and project closure within the Specialty Lab Services (SLS) unit of Discovery, covering all assay development, validation, and sample testing projects (including exploratory projects and prospective clinical trials).
• Establish and standardize project management frameworks, tools, and best practices across laboratories.
• Develop joint infrastructure tools for project management that incorporate necessary interfaces for project managers with LIMS Systems, project management, resource management software, or document management systems.
• Assess project performance metrics and continuously enhance operational efficiency, quality, and delivery timelines.
• Collaborate with operational leadership to define global rate card items related to project and data management.
• Develop and maintain global training plans for project managers.
• Oversee a portfolio of intricate, multi-site, and multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring they align with customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and internal quality standards.
• Coordinate and supervise multi-site and multi-business unit project management.
• Provide escalation support and risk mitigation strategies for high-impact projects.
• Project resource capacity forecasting and management.
• Comply with GCLP, CAP/CLIA, and IVDR standards for project conduct and documentation in clinical trials.
• Consistently exhibit a positive, "can-do" attitude with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
• Support on-site SLS project management; regular and reliable on-site attendance is a core function of this position.
• A PhD in natural sciences (biology, biochemistry, medicine, or a related field) is preferred, or a Master's degree in natural sciences with equivalent experience.
• A project management certification (PMI or similar) is preferred.
• At least 10 years of experience in clinical trial services with pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
• This includes extensive experience in prospective clinical trials and companion diagnostics performance studies using methodologies such as immunohistochemistry, genomics, proteomics, or flow cytometry.
• Experience working in a regulated environment or quality management system (e.g., GCLP).
• Exceptional verbal and written communication and negotiation abilities.
• Capacity to collaborate and support teams across different geographic locations.
• Proven ability to create, lead, and maintain a highly effective, dedicated, and engaged team of project managers with strong morale.
• Outstanding organizational, leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving, time management, and documentation skills.
• Decisiveness with the ability to delegate effectively.
• Familiarity with IHC, Molecular Pathology, Flow Cytometry, Genomics, and Proteomics is a plus.
• A proactive approach to accepting responsibility and driving results.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
