Director of Product Design

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the design efforts for a product-suite trio: identify challenges, chart user flows, and create and validate solutions in collaboration with customers.

• Leverage AI-based design and prototyping tools to quickly explore workflows and UI patterns, and collaborate with engineers to co-create coded prototypes for user testing.

• Conduct rapid, formative usability tests on concept designs and drive iterative improvements prior to delivery.

• Establish and maintain the design vision across all product suites, ensuring alignment with the company's overall product and business strategy.

• Define excellence in FMX design and establish a roadmap to enhance design maturity from its current state to a cohesive, strategic function.

• Provide an external perspective on the future of design and AI-accelerated workflows, determining how FMX should integrate these advancements.

• Manage, mentor, and nurture the design team through regular one-on-ones, constructive feedback, and career development tailored to individual strengths and aspirations.

• Oversee hiring, onboarding, and the design career progression framework while building a scalable team structure that grows with the organization.

• Maintain quality standards across product suites through critiques and clear guidelines, ensuring consistent user experiences as teams delve deeper into their products.

• Establish standards for AI-accelerated workflows: identify areas for AI efficiency and determine aspects that require human insight, ensuring that speed does not compromise quality, accessibility, or ethics.

• Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to integrate design into the shaping, scoping, and delivery of projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in product or UX design, including several years of leadership, management, and team development for designers.

• Proven ability to establish design strategy and enhance the quality and maturity of a design function, rather than merely completing individual projects.

• A strong portfolio showcasing a distinct design perspective: capable of critically evaluating work and differentiating exceptional design from average design.

• Demonstrated insight into AI-assisted design and prototyping workflows: understanding where they can accelerate teams and identifying tasks that should not be entrusted to AI.

• Experience managing a design system and implementing standards across various teams or product domains.

• Proficient in user-centered design, user research, and usability testing, with comfort in utilizing analytics and behavioral data to inform and justify design decisions.

• Excellent communication skills and executive presence, with the ability to influence peers in Product and Engineering while maintaining team alignment asynchronously without relying on frequent live meetings.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote environment.

• Expertise in Figma is highly preferred.
