This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and enhance Berry Law's legal quality management system for VA appeals.
• Identify systemic quality issues and report defects.
• Perform independent quality assessments of randomly selected appeals.
• Review all appeals submitted by new attorneys during the first 15 days post-training.
• Ensure adherence to Berry Law's Quality Standards and prevent critical defects prior to filing.
• Analyze defects to ascertain root causes.
• Relay defects to the VA Commander for necessary corrective actions.
• Facilitate quarterly workshops on legal writing, appellate advocacy training, and calibration exercises.
• Maintain QC Standards, QC Scorecards, Defect Database, Writing Guides, Approved Authority Library, Template Library, and a future AI Prompt Library.
• Review precedential cases and update quality resources as needed.
• Ensure that legal writing is concise, accurate, persuasive, professional, easy to read, and strategically organized.
• Assign root causes, corrective actions, ownership, and deadlines for significant defects, reporting them to the VA Commander and the assigned Platoon Leader.
• Maintain dashboards that track defect rates, recurring defects, attorney trends, department trends, and quality improvement over time.
• Conduct weekly audits of appeals and appeal forms.
• Perform monthly audits of templates, AI outputs, and SOP compliance.
• Require a review by the Platoon Leader before filing when necessary.
• Place attorneys under enhanced QC review.
• Update templates and checklists after consulting with the VA Commander.
• Suggest training modifications and escalate recurring quality issues to the CEO.
• Recommend the termination of attorneys and case managers directly to the VA Commander.
• Must be a licensed attorney.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in appellate or litigation.
• Outstanding legal writing skills.
• Extensive experience in VA appellate cases.
• Strong analytical abilities.
• Excellent decision-making skills.
• Previous experience as an appellate clerk is preferred.
• Prior role as a law review editor is preferred.
• Experience as a legal writing professor is preferred.
• Familiarity with implementing quality management systems is preferred.
