Director of HSS – Enterprise Compliance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop, scale, and manage Stord’s enterprise Health, Safety, and Security (HSS) function across a multi-site fulfillment network.

• Guide and mentor Compliance Program Managers, Regional Managers, and site-level HSS professionals.

• Convert enterprise HSS strategy into actionable operating plans that include priorities, milestones, metrics, and accountability.

• Take responsibility for compliance outcomes related to OSHA, EPA, GMP, GDP, DOT, Hazmat, and other related programs across facilities.

• Collaborate with Sales, Customer Success, CX, and Account Management to leverage compliance capabilities for business acquisition and retention.

• Assist with regulated customer onboarding, respond to RFPs, support customer audits, and conduct post-audit corrective action reviews.

• Oversee occupational safety, physical security, and loss prevention programs throughout the network.

• Identify, prioritize, and mitigate enterprise-level physical, regulatory, financial, and reputational risks.

• Manage HSS budgets, headcount planning, and investments in technology.

• Act as a senior HSS partner to Operations, Legal, HR, Finance, CX, and Sales.

• Recruit, hire, develop, and hold HSS teams accountable for their performance.

• Conduct operational reviews, identify gaps in capability, and establish development and succession plans.

• Provide senior-level guidance on compliance architecture, audit readiness, regulatory currency, and escalations.

• Own safety performance metrics including TRIR, DART, near-miss reporting, and quality of corrective actions.

• Supervise serious incident investigations and implement lessons learned across the network.

• Set standards for physical security and loss prevention, such as access control, CCTV, perimeter security, and visitor management.

• Oversee extensive loss prevention investigations concerning theft, fraud, and internal integrity issues.

• Lead the enterprise HSS risk register and Safety and Security Steering Committee.

• Manage relationships with HSS-related insurance providers, conduct loss control audits, and seek opportunities for coverage improvement.

• Provide executive oversight during major incidents while coordinating with Legal, HR, and external communication teams.

• Be responsible for HSS reporting, dashboards, metrics, business cases, and initiatives for continuous improvement.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of progressive experience in health, safety, security, or compliance leadership.

• Minimum of 3 years in a director-level position or an equivalent senior leadership capacity.

• Proven experience in leading multi-disciplinary HSS teams across a multi-site network in logistics environments such as 3PL, eCommerce fulfillment, or distribution.

• A demonstrated history of building and scaling enterprise compliance programs with tangible business outcomes.

• Experience functioning as a cross-functional senior leader, influencing decisions related to HSS in Sales, Operations, Legal, HR, and Finance.

• In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, GMP/GDP, DOT, and related regulatory frameworks applicable to warehouse and fulfillment operations.

• Strong expertise in designing, governing, and managing enterprise compliance programs.

• Experience with physical security programs, strategies for loss prevention, and oversight of integrity investigations.

• Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements and risk profiles into clear business communications for executive and commercial audiences.

• Familiarity with compliance management systems, audit platforms, and HSS performance reporting mechanisms.

• CSP or an equivalent senior safety certification is preferred.

• CHMM or similar environmental/Hazmat certification is a plus.

• LPC, LPQ, or an equivalent loss prevention credential is preferred.

• Background in Lean, Six Sigma, or operational excellence is an advantage.

• Experience supporting CTPAT, TAPA, GMP, or SOC-related certification programs is preferred.

• A senior leader who earns respect through expertise, commitment, and results.

• Equally effective in interactions with regulatory agencies, customer compliance reviews, and coaching Regional Managers.

• Commercially oriented and capable of linking compliance and safety performance to revenue, margins, and customer retention.

• Able to lead during significant incidents, regulatory challenges, and periods of peak operational stress.

• Proficient in developing talent and fostering a high-performing organization.

• Clear and confident communicator at all levels, from addressing frontline employee concerns to delivering risk briefings at the board level.
