Director of Finance – Billing Operations

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the complete billing, invoicing, collections, and payment reconciliation processes across all customer segments and revenue streams.

• Oversee billing operations for SaaS subscriptions, usage-based services, enterprise contracts, hardware, professional services, and advertising products.

• Develop scalable billing policies, controls, workflows, and documentation.

• Enhance collections performance, optimize cash flow, and improve Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).

• Collaborate with the Accounting team on month-end closing, reconciliations, revenue reporting, and audit support.

• Manage Avalara sales tax compliance and the processing of exemptions.

• Lead billing support operations, pinpoint recurring issues, and implement long-term process enhancements.

• Work closely with Sales, RevOps, Finance, GTM Systems, and Engineering to refine billing processes as upstream systems evolve.

• Establish billing triggers, operational handoffs, and data requirements to ensure accurate invoicing and reporting.

• Detect and resolve data quality issues that cause downstream billing and collections complications.

• Enhance workflows that support complex customer structures, including enterprise, government, education, multi-location, and franchise-style accounts.

• Continuously assess opportunities to boost automation, scalability, and operational efficiency.

• Configure and maintain billing workflows, invoice templates, payment terms, revenue schedules, saved searches, dashboards, and automation within NetSuite.

• Create solutions for intricate billing scenarios, encompassing SaaS subscriptions, consumption and usage-based billing, hardware, professional services, enterprise PO-based contracts, multi-element arrangements, prepaid, ratable, and event-driven revenue models.

• Define system requirements, document solutions, and collaborate with technical teams on implementation.

• Support integrations between Salesforce, Mulesoft, and NetSuite to guarantee accurate and scalable billing operations.

• Manage billing and revenue reporting, including ARR, MRR, deferred revenue, collections performance, and operational KPIs.

• Oversee license and royalty reporting obligations for content providers and strategic partners.

• Create dashboards and reports that provide insight into billing accuracy, collections performance, DSO, and operational health.

• Provide actionable insights that enhance decision-making and facilitate company growth.


⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in Billing Operations, Finance Operations, Revenue Operations, or Order-to-Cash functions in a B2B SaaS or technology setting.

• 5+ years of experience in managing a billing, finance operations, revenue operations, or order-to-cash function.

• Extensive hands-on expertise with NetSuite (4+ years). This position requires someone who has personally configured billing workflows, revenue schedules, automation, saved searches, dashboards, and reporting within NetSuite—not someone who has merely collaborated with administrators or consultants.

• Proven experience in billing across diverse revenue streams, such as SaaS subscriptions, consumption-based billing, hardware, professional services, advertising, and enterprise contracts.

• Experience working in complex billing environments that support large customer bases, multi-location account structures, and simultaneous multiple revenue models.

• Capability to define system requirements, document solutions, and work with technical teams to implement scalable processes and workflows.

• Strong working knowledge of Salesforce as the primary source of contract and order data.

• Solid understanding of ASC 606, deferred revenue, revenue schedules, and billing-to-GL reconciliation.

• Exceptional analytical, operational, and problem-solving abilities, with a history of process and system improvements.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across Finance, Sales, RevOps, Product, and Engineering.
