Director of Engineering – Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee multiple product squads within the engineering division.

• Take charge of squads independently and achieve all squad objectives.

• Manage team members across various squads while driving results and ensuring retention.

• Guide architecture, engineering choices, and development priorities to align with product and business objectives.

• Cultivate healthy, sustainable, efficient, and high-performing teams.

• Collaborate with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to define squad objectives and synchronize engineering priorities.

• Create staffing strategies that balance company and squad goals with business constraints.

• Promote technical decisions that enhance delivery quality and efficiency.

• Amplify squad impact through culture, processes, tools, and technology.

• Manage essential relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Implement quality practices across squads and the engineering department.

• Facilitate ongoing learning from production errors and incidents.

• Enhance security, testing, and scaling practices.

• Address significant production issues and establish procedures to minimize the need for escalations.

• Recruit, hire, and oversee team members across multiple squads.

• Take responsibility for team member retention, growth, performance management, feedback, and guidance.

• Ensure teams operate with high velocity and clear objectives.

• Resolve cross-team and cross-functional challenges.

• Monitor sprint retrospectives, project progress, and team reflections to enhance operations.

• Take proactive ownership of challenging or critical needs when required.

• Identify opportunities for overall improvement within the engineering organization.

• Support team members through pairing, reviews, and related activities.

• Represent the team and organization both internally and externally.

⛳️ Requirements

• Previous experience in technical leadership positions that drive business, product, and technical outcomes, including roles like tech lead, manager, or director.

• Hands-on experience in development and design with demanding architectures that involve scale, security, and product considerations.

• Ability to adapt to a variety of tech stacks quickly.

• Proficient in React, Python, AWS, and MongoDB, or demonstrated capacity to effectively onboard to similar technology stacks.

• Proven track record of managing and scaling multiple teams successfully.

• Experience guiding engineering organizations through significant technical decisions, scaling changes, and technology platform maturation for mission-critical products.

• Experienced in representing an organization in high-stakes conversations internally and externally.

• Comfortable navigating ambiguous, fast-paced environments, particularly in startup settings.

• Proactive and solution-oriented approach.

• Ownership mindset with a dedication to delivering outstanding results for customers.

• Willingness to discuss the need for work authorization sponsorship in the United States.
