Director of Engineering, Core

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Technical strategy: Establish a clear and credible technical roadmap for your teams and effectively communicate it throughout the organization.

• Team leadership: Oversee and develop a team of engineering managers and senior engineers. Recruit, mentor, and retain exceptional technical talent.

• Cross-team execution: Lead intricate, multi-team projects from design to delivery, encompassing significant migrations and infrastructure advancements.

• Operational excellence: Take ownership of reliability and performance for systems critical to customers, ensuring thorough management of on-call duties, incident response, and observability.

• Cross-functional partnership: Collaborate closely with product, design, and other engineering leaders to align the technical vision with business objectives.

• Modern engineering practice: Incorporate emerging tools and AI-assisted development into your team's daily operations to enhance productivity.

• Culture carrier: Foster a high-trust, high-agency engineering culture, serving as a mentor and multiplier across the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experienced engineering leader: You have supervised engineering managers and multiple teams, with a proven history of developing technical leaders beneath you.

• Deep technical background: Possess substantial hands-on experience as a software engineer, particularly with distributed systems, high-scale infrastructure, or developer tools.

• Comfortable with ambiguity: You can set direction in a rapidly changing environment and adapt as priorities evolve.

• Strong communicator: You effectively translate technical trade-offs into actionable insights for product, business, and executive stakeholders.

• Ships: You demonstrate a bias toward action and possess a history of delivering complex technical projects from start to finish.

• Team leadership: Proven experience managing engineering managers or multiple teams.

• Technical depth: Significant hands-on experience with distributed systems, high-scale infrastructure, or developer tooling.

• Project leadership: Demonstrated success in owning a major technical migration or infrastructure initiative from beginning to end.

• Cloud & systems: Proficient in operating across cloud infrastructure and production distributed systems.

• Hiring & development: Strong record of hiring and nurturing engineering talent.
