Director of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Leadership of the team: Conducting 1:1 meetings, performance evaluations, fostering career growth, managing underperformance, and promoting a culture of feedback.

• Architectural oversight: Centralizing decisions regarding system architecture, scalability, frameworks, and tools.

• AI-focused engineering: Promote the use of AI-driven development tools (specifically Claude Code); remain at the forefront of AI-assisted engineering.

• Engineering standards: Ensuring best practices in CI/CD, code quality, and regulatory compliance.

• Quality Assurance ownership: Integrating QA into the engineering culture, introducing new methodologies, and ensuring alignment with medical device regulatory standards.

• Active participation: Writing and reviewing code, and directly addressing technical challenges alongside engineers.

• Solutions Engineering support: Engaging in client meetings, conducting technical deep dives, and assisting with customer integrations as necessary.

• Cross-departmental representation: Serving as the engineering representative at management meetings, the Shape-up betting table, and in interactions with customers and investors.

⛳️ Requirements

• Technical Expertise

• Solid coding experience and a true mastery of AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude Code or similar): fluency over mere curiosity.

• Extensive experience with enterprise-grade SaaS in B2B environments: real-time systems, microservices, cloud infrastructure, and high availability.

• Proven success in designing and scaling low-latency, high-availability architectures.

• Strong understanding of CI/CD practices and compliance within regulated settings.

• Familiarity with our technology stack: Voice AI, Python, TypeScript, LiveKit, GCP, and Kubernetes.

• Leadership & People Management

• Demonstrated success in building and scaling engineering teams, including both individual contributors and managers.

• Experience in performance management, career development frameworks, and fostering cross-functional alignment.

• Exceptional communication skills to motivate teams and represent engineering effectively to customers and investors.

• AI-Native Mindset

• Authentic enthusiasm for and operational expertise with AI coding tools.

• Proven capability to encourage organizational adoption of new development practices and tools.

• Communication

• Proficiency in both Spanish and English.
