This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take full responsibility for the health, scalability, and reliability of Pipe's systems from start to finish, which includes partner-facing APIs and SDKs, money movement, capital markets infrastructure, and AI/ML model infrastructure for credit underwriting.
• Make and justify architectural choices while remaining close enough to the code to assess designs effectively.
• Establish standards for code quality, testing, deployment, and incident response.
• Organize the technical roadmap in relation to speed, scale, and risk, beginning with credit operations, liquidity tools, and partner integrations.
• Lead a team of approximately 10 engineers across two squads through squad leads.
• Foster clarity and momentum while ensuring a sustainable pace for the team.
• Cultivate a culture where engineers are empowered to make and defend their technical decisions.
• Recruit, mentor, and nurture engineers as the team expands.
• Collaborate with Product on scope, sequencing, and delivery.
• Engage with Risk and Data Science on infrastructure for large-scale credit decisioning.
• Work alongside Capital Markets and Finance concerning money movement, reconciliation, and reporting.
• Represent engineering during technical discussions with partners, including API and SDK integrations.
• Oversee incident response and ensure production reliability.
• Develop monitoring, alerting, and on-call practices.
• Enhance code review, deployment, and testing processes to boost both velocity and quality.
• A minimum of 6 years in software engineering, with at least 2 years of experience leading a team of 5 or more engineers.
• Background in a fintech, payments company, or another organization managing regulated financial systems.
• Practical experience in code review, debugging production issues, and making architectural decisions.
• Proven history of scaling engineering teams and systems within an early-stage or high-growth startup environment.
• Experience managing business-critical infrastructure, focusing on uptime, reliability, and security.
• Capability to collaborate with Product, Risk, Data Science, Capital Markets, and Finance.
• A first-principles approach to troubleshooting and resolving production challenges and technical debt.
• Comfort with navigating imperfect systems and legacy trade-offs.
• Preferred: expertise in payments, money movement, or lending infrastructure.
• Preferred: experience with partner SDK and API integrations on a large scale in embedded finance, marketplaces, or platform partnerships.
• Preferred: experience in scaling an engineering team from Series A to Series C.
• Preferred: knowledge of credit risk or capital markets systems.
