• The individual in this role will serve as the primary Credit Underwriter for the Energy sector, tasked with delivering optimal credit limit services characterized by high-quality decision-making, prompt turnaround times, and effective communication with both current customers and potential clients to fulfill the company’s growth and profitability goals in this field.
• Evaluates buyers utilizing all available internal and external data as well as personal market insights.
• Formulates credit limit recommendations as needed according to the established authority matrix to enhance outcomes.
• Oversees the Energy portfolio through reporting tools, collaborates with the Credit Assessment team, and builds relationships with both local and international colleagues to collect relevant information that guides business decisions.
• Aids the Commercial team in managing the portfolio by influencing customer loss ratios and implementing necessary measures to maintain or recover portfolio profitability.
• Expands industry knowledge by participating in association and industry networking events.
• Consistently makes credit decisions regarding credit limits.
• Leads and engages in media interactions, including identifying suitable media outlets, developing Points of View (POV), and conducting outreach when necessary.
• Provides mentorship and training to team members.
• Advanced degree, such as an MBA or MS in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Proficiency in NAESB, ISDA, and other pertinent Energy contracts, along with knowledge of physical and spot trading mechanics, sector-specific risk evaluations encompassing regulatory, financial, and legal frameworks.
• At least 5 years of experience in credit underwriting, preferably within trade credit insurance or banking sectors.
• Strong computer skills, with a solid understanding of financial software and spreadsheet applications.
• Familiarity with the US and Canadian energy markets.
• Robust business acumen and skills in business/finance evaluations.
• Proven commercial insight and capability to support relationship management efforts.
• Exceptional analytical and research abilities.
• Capacity to develop long-term relationships with clients, relationship managers, and brokers, even in challenging decision-making contexts.
• Strong planning, organizational, and workflow prioritization skills.
• Excellent communicator, capable of persuading others regarding decisions made; able to conduct visits and manage interactions, including challenging meetings with high-profile senior executives.
• Seeking candidates who have a foundational awareness of Artificial Intelligence technologies and show enthusiasm for learning and integrating AI into daily business operations, such as Generative Artificial Intelligence, GenAI, or AI Data Analysis tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT).
