This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead and expand a team of reporting and data engineers while establishing a new data science function.
• Make strategic decisions regarding team structure, including recruitment, skill enhancement, and role adjustments.
• Recruit and onboard data engineers, analytics engineers, and data scientists.
• Implement contemporary data team practices such as code reviews, documentation, and on-call responsibilities.
• Oversee the migration process from Crystal Reports and Oracle to Databricks and Power BI.
• Set timelines for decommissioning legacy systems.
• Develop sustainable in-house expertise to reduce dependency on contractors.
• Define standards for architecture, data modeling, and engineering.
• Establish practices for data governance, quality assurance, and observability.
• Outline the charter and collaboration model for the data science function.
• Prioritize the development of data capture, pipelines, and infrastructure for upcoming AI/ML product features.
• Translate product AI goals into specific data requirements.
• Implement practices for data quality, labeling, and accessibility.
• Create and communicate a multi-year data roadmap.
• Act as the primary contact for data strategy with senior leadership.
• Manage budget and relationships with vendors and contractors.
• Provide updates on progress, risks, and trade-offs during the transition.
• Over 8 years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data leadership positions, including at least 3 years in management roles.
• Demonstrated experience in leading a migration from legacy to modern data platforms.
• Direct experience with Databricks and Power BI or a similar modern cloud data/BI stack.
• Experience in building or scaling a data science or analytics function, including hiring initial team members.
• Strong understanding of data architecture, data modeling, and data governance principles.
• Experience in managing external contractors/vendors and transitioning work internally.
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to present data strategy and trade-offs to senior/executive stakeholders.
• Familiarity with legacy enterprise reporting tools such as Crystal Reports and relational databases like Oracle.
• Experience in preparing data infrastructure for machine learning or AI product features.
• Background in product-led or SaaS organizations.
• Knowledge of data governance and privacy/compliance issues relevant to HR and Healthcare.
