This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Oversee RAINN's earned media strategy and integrate programmatic initiatives with public discourse.
• Enhance RAINN's public relations profile in areas such as victim support, public policy, justice, consulting, training, and other impactful domains.
• Identify pertinent platforms, audiences, news triggers, and cultural moments, then devise coverage strategies accordingly.
• Actively seek and secure earned media across print, broadcast, digital publications, podcasts, YouTube, creator channels, radio, newsletters, Reddit, Discord, and emerging platforms.
• Establish and nurture a relationship-based press list.
• Write and place op-eds, ghostwrite for leadership, and propose original story ideas.
• Convert the VP of Communications' vision in entertainment into strategic objectives and execution plans.
• Collaborate with the Entertainment Partnerships Manager on entertainment strategies, talent relationships, cultural moments, and media outcomes.
• Design and lead signature editorial projects, original research narratives, documentary partnerships, podcast series, and significant events.
• Transform programmatic work, public policy advocacy, survivor services data, and research into engaging narratives.
• Work with the Public Policy team to promote federal and state legislative priorities and advocacy efforts.
• Assist with internal communications and crisis communication efforts.
• Train, prepare, and coach RAINN's spokesperson team.
• Create talking points, messaging frameworks, and rapid-response materials.
• Conduct pre-interview preparations, mock Q&A sessions, and post-interview evaluations.
• Serve as a media-ready spokesperson when necessary.
• Expand editorial and content capabilities through press releases, rapid responses, op-eds, long-form content, and cohesive messaging.
• Develop and implement integrated communication strategies for federal initiatives, state advocacy, and survivor-centered projects.
• Lead, mentor, and manage performance expectations for the Entertainment Partnerships Manager.
• Measure, report, and enhance communications efforts across owned channels and within the organization.
• Foster collaborative relationships across programs and support teams.
• Over 10 years of progressive communications experience with a proven track record of secured coverage.
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Political Science, English, or a related field.
• Established, active relationships with reporters, producers, podcast hosts, and editors.
• Experience in managing public relations firms.
• Fluency in traditional print and broadcast media, podcasts, YouTube, creator channels, Substack, independent journalism, TikTok, talk shows, late-night programming, streaming entertainment, and related media.
• Experience in building partnerships with celebrities, athletes, musicians, creators, or professionals in the entertainment industry, or an outstanding transferable skill set.
• Comfort in collaborating with publicists, agents, managers, and talent.
• Exceptional writing skills across pitches, op-eds, press statements, and talking points.
• Ability to edit and simplify complex programmatic, legal, or research documents into clear, accessible language.
• Confidence on camera and microphone, with the capacity to act as a spokesperson.
• Proven experience in media training for executives, experts, or advocates.
• Ability to maintain composure under pressure during crisis communications and rapid-response scenarios.
• Commitment to RAINN's mission and awareness of sexual violence as a public concern, including trauma-informed communication with survivors.
• Demonstrated technical proficiency in G Suite, including Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Calendar.
• Capability to learn and utilize communication technologies, collaboration platforms, and digital tools.
• Reliable high-speed internet and a suitable home office setup.
