Director, Medical & Scientific Affairs – Metabolic Disease Imaging

📋 Description

• Deliver scientific and medical imaging expertise to Commercial Development, Operations, and project teams throughout the clinical trial lifecycle.

• Provide guidance to sponsors on study design, protocol evaluation, imaging endpoint strategy, and solution creation.

• Lead scientific efforts for the imaging aspects of clinical trials related to MASH, obesity, diabetes, and other metabolic disorders.

• Offer advice on imaging biomarkers, quantitative imaging techniques, and emerging technologies.

• Review and oversee imaging charters, image review manuals, materials for sites, sponsor deliverables, and study reports.

• Ensure that imaging methodologies, endpoints, and operational strategies are consistent with protocol objectives, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.

• Enhance imaging methodologies and endpoint strategies for evaluating disease progression, treatment response, and clinical outcomes.

• Support business development through client meetings, capabilities presentations, bid defense meetings, RFPs, RFIs, and proposal creation.

• Establish and nurture relationships with sponsors and stakeholders throughout sales and study execution.

• Represent ICON at scientific conferences, industry forums, and working groups via presentations, publications, and imaging standardization initiatives.

• Collaborate with Marketing and Commercial teams on scientific differentiators and thought leadership initiatives.

• Provide scientific training, mentorship, and consultation to internal teams.

• Work with Product Development and Technology teams on scientific requirements and innovative imaging solutions and software platforms.

• Stay updated on emerging scientific, clinical, and regulatory trends in metabolic disease imaging.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• PhD in a relevant scientific or technical field is required, preferably in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Medical Physics, Physics, Imaging Sciences, or a closely related quantitative imaging discipline.

• Extensive experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, CRO, or clinical research industry supporting imaging components of clinical trials.

• Direct experience with imaging studies and imaging biomarkers in MASH, obesity, diabetes, and other metabolic disease indications is essential.

• Strong understanding of imaging biomarker development, quantitative image analysis, imaging endpoint strategy, and clinical trial design.

• Experience in applying advanced imaging technologies, image analysis methods, and novel imaging techniques in metabolic disease research.

• Expertise in imaging modalities used in clinical trials for metabolic diseases, including the assessment of liver fat, fibrosis, body composition, and related metabolic endpoints.

• Experience assisting in business development activities, including client interactions, scientific consultation, proposal development, and bid defense meetings.

• Ability to lead and work collaboratively across global, cross-functional teams.

• Excellent skills in scientific communication, presentation, and stakeholder management.

• Capacity to translate complex scientific ideas into practical, client-oriented solutions.

• Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

• Commitment to quality, innovation, and delivering exceptional customer experiences.

• US location is strongly preferred; applicants from Mexico City, Mexico, Ireland, or the UK may also be considered.

• Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.

• Legal authorization to work in the country where the position is based.
