This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Develop and oversee esVolta’s market risk control framework, processes, and tools to support trading and market-related operations.
• Analyze and report on real-time trading desk risk exposures, including instances of limit breaches, while proposing and executing mitigation strategies.
• Create and maintain comprehensive risk management policies and procedures that align with company objectives and regulatory standards.
• Set systematic trading limits, monitor compliance, and adjust limits as necessary to reflect changing strategies and market dynamics.
• Conduct in-depth profit and loss attribution analysis with insights on key drivers, ensuring precision and actionable recommendations for senior management.
• Design and implement sophisticated quantitative tools and controls specifically tailored to esVolta’s trading strategies, utilizing Python and SQL for automation where applicable.
• Manage risks associated with counterparties, operations, and business continuity planning to protect trading activities and financial assets.
• Prepare comprehensive trading performance and risk analysis reports for senior leadership to support informed decision-making.
• Collaborate with trading, finance, and compliance teams to synchronize risk management practices with organizational objectives and ensure adherence to regulations.
• Ensure timely compliance reporting, including ongoing updates to the esVolta Market Risk Committee.
• Over 7 years of relevant experience in market risk management, product control, or similar roles within energy companies, trading firms, investment banks, or hedge funds.
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, or a related discipline; professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA, FRM) are advantageous.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL is highly preferred, with experience in developing automated risk controls and reporting dashboards.
• Solid understanding of power markets and financial instruments, with a keen interest in power and the renewable energy sector.
• Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, accompanied by a meticulous attention to detail.
• Proven track record of leading cross-functional projects, building frameworks from scratch, and successfully driving initiatives to completion.
• Demonstrated capability to utilize AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Harvey) to enhance efficiency, quality, and responsiveness of work, while exercising sound judgment and appropriate oversight.
