Director, Industry Insights – Perspective

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement athenahealth’s multi-year research and thought leadership strategy.

• Identify emerging healthcare challenges, unresolved questions, and industry opportunities that align with athenahealth’s data and expertise.

• Oversee the interpretation of both quantitative and qualitative research, ensuring that conclusions are credible and supported by evidence.

• Lead, cultivate, and prioritize initiatives for the Research & Thought Leadership team.

• Act as the principal external representative for athenaInstitute research and athenahealth's viewpoints.

• Represent research at keynotes, panels, press interviews, analyst discussions, customer forums, and within industry contexts.

• Author and oversee the creation of research reports, insights, articles, presentations, and other publications.

• Formulate a comprehensive view on the future of healthcare encompassing patient access, AI and technology, value-based care, financial performance, payer-provider interactions, interoperability, and emerging issues.

• Assess and continuously enhance the effectiveness of the research agenda through audience engagement, media and analyst interest, speaking opportunities, stakeholder feedback, and channel engagement.

• Establish connections with healthcare executives, customers, researchers, policymakers, analysts, media, and industry organizations.

• Keep track of developments in healthcare markets, policy, regulation, technology, and delivery systems.

• Collaborate with Brand & Communications and Marketing to weave research into athenahealth’s corporate narrative.

• Create materials for external speaking engagements and contribute research-driven programming to the speakers bureau.

• Identify and pursue priority conferences, forums, media opportunities, analyst discussions, and other external platforms.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare research, insights, strategy, analytics, consulting, industry analysis, health policy, or related fields.

• Extensive knowledge of the U.S. healthcare landscape.

• Experience in healthcare delivery, economics, policy, clinical operations, payer-provider interactions, or related fields.

• Proven ability to derive perspectives from research and evidence.

• Strong research judgment with the capacity to frame inquiries, assess analytic approaches, interpret findings, challenge assumptions, and rigorously evaluate conclusions.

• Exceptional strategic and critical thinking skills.

• Outstanding writing and communication abilities.

• Extensive presentation experience and a commanding executive presence.

• Experience in leading and developing teams and setting strategic direction.

• Demonstrated capability to manage complex cross-functional projects through influence, judgment, and credibility.

• Familiarity with healthcare data privacy, governance, methodological, and reputational considerations.

• Willingness to travel for conferences, speaking engagements, customer meetings, media opportunities, and other forums.

• Preferred advanced degree in public health, health policy, health economics, health services research, medicine, business, or a related discipline.

• Preferred experience with large-scale healthcare, clinical, operational, claims, financial, or real-world datasets.

• Preferred experience in healthcare technology or at the intersection of healthcare delivery, technology, research, and market strategy.

• Preferred experience working alongside communications, corporate affairs, marketing, or brand teams.
