This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Formulate and implement a long-term strategy for WhyHunger’s Global Movements Program.
• Recognize emerging opportunities, challenges, and trends in global food sovereignty, anti-hunger initiatives, agroecology, Indigenous food systems, climate justice and resilience, economic equity, human rights, and movement-building arenas.
• Assess and analyze program effectiveness, adjust strategies as necessary, and report on impact metrics.
• Establish and nurture relationships with grassroots organizations, leaders of social movements, networks, and coalitions.
• Create innovative initiatives such as leadership cohorts, agroecology school networks, peer-learning exchanges, and movement gatherings.
• Develop and oversee a portfolio of strategic grants, including conducting due diligence, reviewing proposals, making funding recommendations, monitoring grants, and stewarding partnerships.
• Seek and foster new collaborations with movement leaders, grassroots entities, and global networks.
• Formulate and promote WhyHunger’s international advocacy agenda.
• Organize and facilitate exchanges, gatherings, learning communities, and collaborative projects.
• Act as an internal expert to guide advocacy and narrative transformation strategies.
• Collaborate with the development team on institutional and significant individual funding opportunities.
• Represent WhyHunger in meetings with funders, philanthropic partners, donor prospects, and during site visits.
• Assist in drafting grant proposals, donor reports, concept notes, and funding strategies.
• Develop strategic storytelling and enhance partner communications and calls to action.
• Contribute to organizational messaging, content creation, thought leadership, public education campaigns, and opinion pieces.
• Serve as a public spokesperson through media interviews, speaking engagements, and multimedia content creation.
• Supervise the Global Movements Program Manager.
• Manage consultants and contractors as necessary.
• Develop, oversee, and monitor the global programs budget.
• Ensure effective planning, reporting, compliance, and cross-functional coordination of global programs projects.
• Participate in organizational initiatives and leadership discussions as part of the Program Leadership Team.
• Over 10 years of progressive experience in food sovereignty, food systems, international development, philanthropy, social movement building, human rights, or related fields.
• In-depth knowledge of global food systems, food sovereignty frameworks, agroecology, climate justice, and/or Indigenous food pathways, including the structural causes of hunger.
• Established credibility and existing connections within food sovereignty or related movements.
• Extensive experience in developing and managing strategic partnerships with social movements, community organizers, grassroots organizations, or community-based networks in the Global South.
• Proven experience in crafting program strategies with defined outcomes and aligned activities that show measurable impact.
• Experience in developing and managing grantmaking portfolios.
• Demonstrated success in designing and leading complex projects and multi-stakeholder initiatives, delivering effective results on schedule and within budget.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking proficiency.
• Ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
• Experience in managing diverse teams and consultants.
• Willingness to represent WhyHunger at evening or weekend events when necessary.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
• Fluency or professional proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, or French is preferred.
• Experience in cultivating and managing institutional funders, major donors, and philanthropic partners is preferred.
• Background in representing an organization within global coalitions and advocacy contexts is preferred.
• Experience serving as a spokesperson and engaging with the press is preferred.
• Experience in designing and executing innovative organizational capacity-building programs is preferred.
• Familiarity with multilateral policy processes and/or advocacy with U.S. policymakers on international food and agriculture matters is preferred.
