Director, Forward Deployed Engineering – Epic

Posted Jul 28

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assemble and guide a team of Epic Forward Deployed Engineers, defining hiring criteria, mentoring members, and creating the framework for QH’s integration with health system Epic environments.

• Act as the executive technical sponsor for 2–3 key health system clients, managing the integration relationship at the levels of CIO, CMIO, and Epic Principal Trainer.

• Facilitate solution design meetings with client Epic and clinical informatics teams to delineate AI output delivery paths—such as CDS Hooks, SMART on FHIR sidebars, In Basket via SendMessage API, HL7 MDM T02 through Epic Bridges, and FHIR R4 write-back.

• Oversee the interface delivery roadmap for each client, managing calendar-driven dependencies (with Epic interface configuration being the primary challenge) and establishing realistic expectations both internally and externally.

• Convert client clinical workflow needs into precise platform specifications for QH’s data engineering and product teams.

• Develop and sustain a reusable integration playbook across Epic modules (MyChart, Ambulatory, ClinDoc, Bridges) to ensure that each new client engagement is more efficient than the previous one.

• Represent QH at client governance meetings, steering committees, and executive presentations.

• Work in collaboration with internal Data and Product Engineering teams to synchronize forward deployed integration efforts with the core platform roadmap.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years in healthcare IT, Epic implementation, or clinical informatics, with at least 2 years in a leadership or principal position.

• Extensive, hands-on proficiency with Epic’s integration ecosystem: Bridges (HL7 v2 interfaces), SMART on FHIR, CDS Hooks, MyChart, and In Basket / SendMessage API.

• Demonstrated success in executing Epic go-lives or managing implementations at Epic partner organizations, Epic consulting firms, or large healthcare systems.

• Executive-level communication skills—capable of presenting architectural decisions to a health system CTO, leading workflow design sessions with clinical champions, and troubleshooting interface issues with an Epic analyst within the same day.

• Experience in managing client relationships throughout the process, including scope negotiation, escalation management, and aligning stakeholders across large, matrixed health system organizations.

• Knowledge of FHIR R4 interoperability standards and contemporary EHR integration patterns.

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical, clinical, or healthcare-related discipline.

🏝️ Benefits

• Competitive salaries with equity packages.

• Comprehensive medical/dental/vision insurance.

• Flexible working hours.

• Hybrid work options.

• An inclusive environment that promotes creativity and innovation.
