This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Lead, cultivate, and oversee a team of commodity managers and sourcing program managers; create a management layer as the function expands. Take charge of the departmental budget, headcount strategy, and organizational sourcing policies and process standards.
• Act as the supply chain escalation point for executive leadership; balance competing priorities among Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Operations to achieve business objectives.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Product Management as a key participant in the product roadmap process, providing supply chain insights for feature definition across deployment environments; own DFM and DFX to guarantee manufacturability, sourcing options, and cost efficiency are incorporated into designs from the initial stages of NPI.
• Establish and implement commodity strategy - make/buy frameworks, preferred supplier lists, risk tiering - aimed at achieving the best total cost regarding price, lead time, quality, and working capital.
• Develop and execute the inbound logistics and procurement strategy for the electrical commodity portfolio; assist in MRP/ERP system development and ensure procurement parameters align with the supply chain strategy.
• Manage the sourcing strategy for Mainspring’s AC-to-DC product transition, including BOM-level lead time evaluations, risk buy decisions, and readiness for production.
• Source and qualify power conversion equipment (inverters, transformers, skidded systems) from various suppliers to avoid single-source dependencies; ensure business continuity and benchmark against the competitive supply landscape.
• Own and implement a multi-path battery and BMS sourcing strategy that complies with FEOC and IRA requirements across non-restricted regions; stay updated on FEOC, IRA/ITC, USMCA, and tariff developments to proactively adjust strategies; provide briefings to executive leadership on investor-facing compliance and cost readiness.
• Identify, assess, and onboard contract manufacturers for electrical assemblies (preferably in the US/Mexico, USMCA-compliant); lead rapid-turnaround sourcing for R&D electrical builds including PCBAs, connectors, cables, sensors, and electromechanical assemblies.
• Oversee should-cost modeling across the electrical commodity portfolio; spearhead cost-reduction initiatives with annual savings targets linked to product cost roadmap milestones and working capital enhancement goals.
• Negotiate contracts ranging from R&D quick-turn to long-term volume agreements; manage supplier risk assessments, SPOF mitigation planning, and business continuity for critical commodities.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related technical field.
• Over 20 years of experience in electrical engineering, operations, and supply chain, including at least 3–5 years in managing sourcing teams; experience in shaping organizational sourcing policy and process standards is necessary.
• Extensive technical knowledge of power electronics, PCBAs (SMT/through-hole/mixed), connectors, cable assemblies, and battery/energy storage systems. Hands-on circuit design or PCBA layout experience is a significant advantage.
• Experience in onboarding contract manufacturers for electromechanical assemblies (preferably in US/Mexico); familiarity with MRP/ERP systems and inbound logistics is essential.
• Demonstrated success in best-total-cost commodity strategy: multi-source qualification, cost-reduction programs, working capital enhancement, and supplier risk management.
• Strong executive presence; ability to mediate competing stakeholder perspectives, negotiate at senior management levels, and manage a departmental budget.
• Knowledge of FEOC, IRA/ITC, USMCA, and compliance-driven sourcing environments such as UL/IEC.
• Willingness to travel up to 40% (domestic US and Mexico; occasional international travel).
• Pre-IPO stock options.
