This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and oversee the operational framework of our data organization.
• Manage the complete data product lifecycle, from ingestion to utilization.
• Lead our data engineering teams (Bronze/Silver/Gold architecture), the reporting function, and a versatile contractor team dedicated to our highest-priority data projects.
• Collaborate across the organization to provide the data each team requires to perform their tasks.
• Work closely with our Analytics & Data Science team.
• Take ownership of the strategy, roadmap, and implementation of our data platform.
• Define and uphold data products across our Bronze/Silver/Gold architecture.
• Manage the protocol for handoffs from Analytics.
• Establish and operationalize a data governance framework.
• Foster a culture where "trusted data" is an essential standard.
• Oversee both internal and customer-facing reporting.
• Implement review and quality assurance processes that instill confidence in every number stakeholders encounter.
• Design and enhance the Gold layer as the primary consumption layer for AI, ML, and product applications.
• Lead and nurture an internal team along with flexible contractor support.
• 8–12+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform, or analytics engineering positions, including at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
• Proven experience in building or enhancing a data governance framework in a production setting.
• A track record of operationalizing data products from research or experimental outputs into reliable, governed production systems.
• Experience with modern data stack tools (e.g., dbt, Snowflake/Databricks/BigQuery, Airflow or similar, data catalog tools).
• Established ability to integrate within and gain trust from business stakeholders — managing upwards, downwards, and laterally across the organization.
• Strong project and product management skills — capable of providing structure and delivery discipline to technically proficient but execution-challenged teams.
• Technically credible enough to earn respect from skilled data engineers without needing to be the top engineer in the room.
• Comprehensive understanding of medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and the distinct needs of different consumers across each layer.
• Familiarity with AI/ML data requirements — including feature stores, model monitoring, data versioning, and the practical implications of "AI-ready" data.
