This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs, this position demands outstanding leadership and negotiation abilities, extensive experience in government relations, and a strong enthusiasm for crafting and leading innovative communications strategies.
• Primary responsibilities encompass the management of various communications portfolios, enhancing the visibility of the JCCs, overseeing content creation and communications planning, advancing the JCC’s digital content strategy and media presence, along with proactive and reactive media relations tactics and issue management.
• A commitment to continuously learning about global industry trends and innovative communication practices is essential, as is the provision of sharp strategic counsel.
• The ideal candidate will have established relationships within government and demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills when navigating competing priorities, complexity, and uncertainty.
• A deep understanding of the intricacies of government and the political landscape is crucial, as is the ability to collaborate purposefully to elevate communications to a new, creative level.
• This individual will cultivate and nurture strategic, collaborative relationships with a varied array of internal and external stakeholders.
• They must be enthusiastic about developing feedback mechanisms and key performance indicators, monitoring progress, consistently seeking opportunities for improvement, and regularly updating the status of the communications strategy and operational plans.
• The Director of Communications at JCC will lead a team of communications professionals in executing long-term communications strategies and initiatives, including the creation of comprehensive strategic plans, innovative content for both online and print media, management of multiple websites and channels, special events, marketing and branding, media relations, and providing counsel and support to family practice divisions and other partners and audiences.
• A graduate degree in communications, public relations, political science, marketing, journalism, or a related discipline, with over ten years of progressive and relevant experience; or an equivalent mix of education, experience, and/or specialized training.
• Strong leadership capabilities with experience in team management, demonstrating a genuine commitment to developing and championing people.
• A passion for creativity, strategy, and innovation, coupled with the expertise to remain current with communications trends.
• Exceptional relationship management abilities and strong collaborative skills as a participant in complex, multi-faceted projects.
• Critical thinking and decision-making skills, with the capacity to manage large projects and meet deadlines effectively.
• Comprehensive understanding of strategic communications principles and best practices.
• Knowledge of brand development and design principles.
• Experience in supervising and managing teams and partners within complex systems, working collaboratively with senior and executive management.
• Excellent verbal communication, presentation, and writing skills, with a proven track record in producing clear, concise, and comprehensive written reports, presentation materials, website content, and newsletters.
• Strong judgment and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize, identify issues, and determine necessary actions under pressure.
• Proven expertise in partner or government relations, particularly in enabling diverse groups to collaborate towards shared goals and enhanced collective impact.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as project management software.
• Familiarity with Drupal and/or WordPress, Hootsuite, Google Analytics, and Canva is considered an asset.
