Director, Commercial Data Strategy – Governance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the strategy for the commercial data and AI platform, ensuring it aligns with enterprise architecture standards and meets commercial analytics requirements.

• Develop and refine the reference architecture for commercial data, analytics, and AI, which includes lakehouse patterns, MDM, APIs, and integration standards.

• Create a scalable and cost-effective foundational platform that facilitates analytics, experimentation, and AI on a global enterprise scale.

• Collaborate with IT/GBS to ensure alignment on shared infrastructure, tooling strategies, and long-term platform roadmaps.

• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of emerging AI capabilities, macroeconomic factors, regulatory trends, and technological advancements that influence the future of commercial execution in MedTech and Life Sciences.

• Assess innovative AI and GenAI use cases from the perspectives of platform, governance, and scalability to determine their applicability across commercial areas such as sales productivity, forecasting, pricing, customer engagement, and revenue risk management.

• Translate external AI and market trends into forward-thinking implications for platform, architecture, and governance, ensuring the commercial data ecosystem remains future-ready while maintaining trust, security, and compliance.

• Provide counsel to executive leadership on AI platform readiness, enterprise risk posture, and investment trade-offs as the commercial AI landscape evolves.

• Oversee the platform engineering roadmap that supports cloud infrastructure, storage, compute, orchestration, DataOps, and Master Data Management (MDM) for commercial domains.

• Guarantee standardized patterns for data ingestion, integration, and orchestration across commercial source systems.

• Enable platform functionalities that support analytics engineering, decision science, and GenAI use cases.

• Design platform capabilities with a forward-thinking AI perspective, ensuring adaptability to support emerging model types and evolving data access and compute patterns.

• Manage the commercial data governance framework, encompassing the operating model, standards, policies, and enforcement measures.

• Implement metadata management, lineage, cataloging, and data discovery capabilities to ensure transparency, auditability, and reusability.

• Define and execute data quality frameworks, including automated validation, monitoring, and remediation processes.

• Establish and enforce access control, privacy, and compliance measures, ensuring adherence to GDPR, SOX, and other relevant regulatory standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of progressive experience in data architecture, platform engineering, data governance, or enterprise data strategy within MedTech, Life Sciences, or similarly regulated sectors (preferred).

• At least 5 years of leadership experience overseeing global or enterprise-scale data and platform teams.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and operating enterprise data platforms that effectively support analytics and AI at scale.

• Profound understanding of data governance, privacy, security, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk management.

• Strong knowledge of modern cloud data architectures, master data management (MDM), metadata management, and data quality tools.

• Proven ability to evaluate emerging AI technologies and macro trends, translating them into actionable platform, architecture, and governance strategies.

• Track record of balancing governance rigor with speed, usability, and business outcomes.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field is required; an advanced degree is preferred.

• Experience implementing governance-by-design strategies (automated controls versus manual reviews).

• Familiarity with commercial data domains and the impact of governance on analytics, AI, and decision-making.

• Experience collaborating with analytics engineering and data science teams in production settings.

• Global enterprise experience across multiple Business Units, Regions, and regulatory environments.

• Strong executive presence and exceptional communication skills.
