• Develop and sustain demos, sample applications, reference architectures, tutorials, and technical tools that assist developers in understanding the capabilities of Tailscale.
• Generate technical content for developers, including blog articles, documentation, videos, presentations, workshops, livestreams, and conference sessions.
• Represent Tailscale at events, conferences, meetups, community gatherings, and discussions oriented towards developers.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, product, marketing, support, and community teams to identify challenges faced by developers and convert that feedback into enhanced product experiences.
• Assist developers in comprehending Tailscale’s fundamental connectivity product, along with newer product domains such as secure AI access, privileged access management, identity, infrastructure security, and developer tools.
• Contribute to open-source projects, examples, and integrations where applicable.
• Engage in public technical discussions through GitHub issues, pull requests, community forums, social media channels, and other avenues for developer feedback.
• Help shape what an excellent developer experience looks like at Tailscale, from initial engagement to production use.
• Strong background in software engineering, with proven experience in building, debugging, and delivering real projects.
• Capability to write clear, valuable code samples, demos, tutorials, and technical content tailored for developer audiences.
• Profound curiosity about system functionalities, particularly in networking, infrastructure, security, identity, cloud, open-source, or developer tooling domains.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and creatively.
• Experience in addressing technical audiences, whether through conferences, meetups, livestreams, workshops, podcasts, videos, or internal engineering discussions.
• Comfortable engaging publicly through GitHub issues, pull requests, community forums, social media platforms, open-source projects, and developer feedback channels.
• Strong developer empathy, emotional intelligence, and product awareness. You recognize friction points, understand their significance, and can transform that insight into improved documentation, APIs, examples, workflows, and product experiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively across various functions, including engineering, product, marketing, support, community, and other technical stakeholders.
• Capable of working autonomously, selecting high-impact projects, and driving them from concept to execution.
• Proficient in managing multiple workstreams and adhering to regular publishing, event, or launch deadlines.
• Comfortable presenting on stage and on camera to developer audiences.
• Willingness to travel for events, conferences, and community gatherings.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong foundational knowledge in software engineering, whether acquired through formal education, professional experience, open-source contributions, self-directed learning, or the development of ambitious personal projects.
• A history of building and elucidating technical systems. This may include production software, developer tools, infrastructure projects, open-source contributions, home lab experiments, local AI setups, networking projects, or any other examples that demonstrate your thought processes.
