Design Systems Designer – Contract

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Develop and create Cambly's design system as a project, featuring a structured, variable-based token architecture (including color, spacing, typography, and more) along with a comprehensive component library built upon it.

• Revamp our current design system to establish clear guidelines for the appropriate usage of each component.

• Produce specifications and documentation that are precise enough for our designers, engineers, and AI coding agents to implement with minimal ambiguity.

• Join a small, dynamic design team where your contributions will enable our product designers to concentrate on the high-craft aspects of Lexicon that require attention the most.

⛳️ Requirements

• Mid-to-senior-level, hands-on design systems specialist with a proven history of constructing and maintaining design systems that utilize tokens, theming, and component libraries in Figma, employing a variable-based token architecture while providing ongoing recommendations to enhance overall efficiency and quality.

• Possess a systems and codification mindset, capable of translating design intent into clear, unambiguous rules and documentation usable by designers, engineers, and AI coding agents alike.

• A well-rounded digital product designer at heart — someone whose core strength is in design systems, yet also a proficient product designer able to contribute beyond systems alone.

• Experience and a strong curiosity about incorporating AI into the core development workflow.

• Self-directed and adaptable, able to operate effectively without a fully refined process or handoff; this is a rapidly evolving team.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with both design and engineering teams.

• Experience in iOS design.

• A genuine interest in Cambly’s team and mission, with the potential for this role to evolve into a larger or more permanent position.
