Design Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee, mentor, and provide support to a team of 2 or more designers.

• Deliver consistent feedback, offer career development advice, and engage in hands-on design coaching.

• Define design quality, craftsmanship, and collaboration standards throughout the organization.

• Conduct design reviews and promote a constructive, inclusive feedback environment.

• Recruit and onboard additional design talent as the team expands.

• Design and implement a comprehensive, scalable design system.

• Establish and uphold design best practices, accessibility standards, and brand guidelines.

• Create and update design documentation as needed.

• Act as the internal Figma expert, managing shared libraries, file organization, naming conventions, and components.

• Educate designers and cross-functional partners on advanced Figma functionalities.

• Assess Figma platform updates and new features.

• Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams from discovery to delivery.

• Shape roadmap decisions using design thinking and user-centered insights.

• Lead design reviews and ensure stakeholder alignment on design direction, rationale, and trade-offs.

• Evaluate and advocate for AI-powered design tools and workflows.

• Experiment with AI tools and formulate responsible-use guidelines.

• Position the design team as early adopters and internal champions of AI-assisted processes.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7 or more years of experience in product design.

• Minimum of 2 years in a design leadership or senior individual contributor role within a product-focused technology organization.

• Extensive expertise in Figma, including component architecture, variables/tokens, auto layout, and prototyping.

• Proven experience in building or significantly enhancing a design system from the ground up.

• Strong portfolio that demonstrates end-to-end product design work and systems-level thinking.

• Exceptional communication and facilitation skills.

• Established ability to mentor and develop designers of varying experience levels.

• Solid understanding of front-end development principles and the design-to-engineering implementation process.

• Experience in a rapidly growing startup or scaling design function is preferred.

• Familiarity with AI-powered design tools is preferred.

• Experience with user research methodologies is preferred.

• Exposure to product managers and engineers in an Agile or continuous delivery setting is preferred.

• A proven record of advocating for and enhancing accessibility is preferred.
