This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Conduct structural analysis and design for steel utility transmission and distribution structures.
• Manage comprehensive design responsibilities for quotes and orders.
• Organize and oversee design workflows to achieve project deadlines.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to fulfill customer requirements and develop efficient, manufacturable designs.
• Balance considerations of safety, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Interpret customer specifications, market demands, and sales input.
• Prepare and convey engineering data for quotes and orders, including weight estimations and cost-related information.
• Assist the Drafting team by ensuring design precision and timely processing of orders.
• Review engineering and shop drawings and assess as-built products in relation to design objectives.
• Coordinate workflow and project timelines to ensure timely delivery.
• Provide technical support internally and externally to customers, consultants, and contractors.
• Communicate through phone, email, and face-to-face interactions.
• Offer support to drafters and junior design staff as necessary.
• Engage in discussions regarding product and process enhancements.
• Suggest and coordinate testing when required.
• Ensure adherence to Valmont, industry, and national codes and standards.
• Manage both standard and complex structural modeling tasks.
• Utilize engineering judgment throughout projects.
• Occasional travel of up to 10% may be necessary.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering, with a preference for 2–5+ years of structural design experience.
• EIT certification is mandatory; candidates in Mechanical Engineering must be willing to acquire EIT certification.
• Proficient in structural engineering principles and 3D CAD software (AutoCAD).
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• A Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred.
• Preference for 3–4 years of industry experience.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is preferred.
• Experience in designing steel monopoles or utility structures is preferred.
• Familiarity with utility design loads and industry standards is preferred.
• Previous project team experience is preferred.
