This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Oversee the creation and negotiation of cutting-edge partnership and strategic initiative agreements within the insurance sector.

• Act as an embedded legal advisor to the Business Development team concerning insurance agency agreements, joint ventures, partnerships, and various strategic opportunities.

• Identify, evaluate, and reduce legal and business risks through careful contract drafting, negotiation strategies, and practical advice for internal stakeholders.

• Deliver clear and actionable legal guidance to senior management and internal stakeholders regarding insurance regulatory requirements across all 50 states, encompassing statutory and administrative frameworks, as well as relevant federal laws and regulations such as GLBA.

• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, Claims, Product, Data Science, and State Management to ensure alignment on risk-based strategies for new and emerging programs spearheaded by the Business Development team.

• Create high-quality, decision-ready written analyses to assist leadership in strategic planning, risk evaluation, and issue escalation.

• Offer practical and timely legal counsel to teams developing new products and services across both traditional and digital distribution channels.

• Work closely with cross-functional partners throughout all stages of product development, implementation, and launch.

• Convert evolving regulatory and commercial developments into actionable recommendations and risk management strategies.


⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and an active bar license in good standing in at least one U.S. state.

• Over 7 years of experience in commercial contracting, either in-house or at a respected mid-sized or large law firm representing corporate clients.

• More than 5 years of experience in insurance regulatory matters, either in-house or at a notable mid-sized or large law firm representing corporate clients.

• Proven expertise in property and casualty insurance, including prior experience in insurance regulation and commercial contracting.

• Established proficiency in advising insurance entities and distribution partners on issues related to the insurance agency context, including digital agencies, product flows, and commission frameworks.

• Demonstrated capability to provide strategic legal advice under time constraints, even with limited or incomplete information, while exercising sound judgment in ambiguous circumstances.

• Experience in influencing senior leaders and effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.

• Strong history of working alongside product managers, engineers, actuaries, data scientists, and business development professionals to facilitate the launch of new products and initiatives.
