This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.
• Serve as the CTO's deputy for the backend and machine learning teams, capable of demonstrating technical leadership in the absence of the CTO.
• Take ownership of architecture and technical decision-making for products and features from start to finish.
• Remain actively involved — engage with the code and deploy features yourself, and prototype functionalities as required.
• Convert business challenges into technical solutions: lead a small team (5–10 people) and a business requirement towards a successful implementation.
• Guide team members: handle hiring, offboarding, compensation and resourcing decisions, as well as team synchronization.
• Ensure alignment and coordination across teams, collaborating with peers at the CTO/CDO level.
• Oversee infrastructure, architecture, and the operational/administrative aspects without considering them beneath you.
• Propel execution in a dynamic environment where priorities are frequently changing.
• Robust backend engineering background — you conceptualize architecture and can design systems mentally (C# / Python preferred; strong experience with Java or other backend languages is also acceptable).
• Truly hands-on: still coding and capable of delivering features independently.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to align technical and business objectives.
• Proven experience in people management (hiring, team leadership, resource allocation).
• Proficient across the full spectrum: architecture, delivery, infrastructure, and operational tasks.
• Startup mentality — you thrive in small, flat teams and lead by example.
• An enduring curiosity — even after years in the field, you are eager to explore new avenues.
• Clear and structured thought and communication: you respond to questions directly, and when uncertain, you can clearly express your uncertainties.
• Extensive experience (8+ years), including hands-on development and a role in technical leadership or management.
• REMOTE OPPORTUNITY for full-time work.
• 28 calendar days of vacation annually.
• 7 wellness days per year that can be utilized for personal matters or recovery without needing to take sick leave.
• Bonuses of up to $5000 for successfully recommending applicants for company positions.
• 50% coverage for professional training, international conferences, and meetings.
• Corporate discounts for English language lessons.
• Health benefits: If not eligible for corporate medical insurance, the company will reimburse up to $1,000 gross per year per employee, to be used for personal health insurance or medical expenses for oneself and immediate family (spouse, children).
• Workplace organization: The company provides all employees with a fully equipped workplace and necessary equipment (desk, chair, wifi, etc.) at our offices or co-working spaces.
• For other locations, the company offers reimbursement of workplace expenses up to $1,000 gross every three years, based on paychecks. These funds can be used for co-working space rental or home office setup (desk, chair, Internet, etc.) over those three years.
• An internal gamified gratitude system: receive bonuses from colleagues and redeem them for merchandise, team-building events, massage vouchers, etc.
