Datastore Forward Deployed Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Collaborate directly with external partners to comprehend technical use cases, guide the integration of APIs and datasets, and develop cohesive solutions utilizing Beacon’s data platform.

• Work alongside Datastore engineers, product managers, and scientific teams to convert partner requirements into data models, application features, and integration tools.

• Implement and enhance Beacon’s data platform within actual partner settings.

• Develop production application and integration code against a PostgreSQL-backed GraphQL API.

• Deliver features, tools, and proof-of-concept integrations on Beacon’s platform or potentially on a partner’s platform.

• Facilitate technical discussions with partner engineers and data teams.

• Assist with API integrations, data access patterns, adoption, and downstream analytics.

• Create internal tools, services, and queries to enhance observability, troubleshooting, and resolution of client data challenges.

• Refine documentation, APIs, data models, and operational processes based on feedback from partners and stakeholders.

• Troubleshoot production data issues comprehensively through logs, pipelines, and databases to determine root causes and solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in backend software engineering, data engineering, or data platform engineering, including practical application development.

• More than 3 years in a customer-facing technical role providing solutions directly to external partners or clients.

• Strong command of SQL with hands-on experience in PostgreSQL.

• Ability to manually write and optimize queries while understanding schema design, indexes, and query plans.

• Practical experience in designing and managing operational data models.

• Proven track record of addressing data-related challenges with customers or external stakeholders, encompassing requirements gathering, solution design, and delivery.

• Experience across the entire stack with data querying, modeling, and development of application and integration code.

• Proficiency in Python and/or Julia.

• Experience in building and utilizing APIs, particularly GraphQL.

• Familiarity with REST, batch exports, ELT/ETL, and event sourcing integration patterns.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or regulated data environments is a plus.

• Experience with Snowflake and Superset is a plus.
