Database Reliability Engineer – Core Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Continuously enhance the reliability and performance of the ClickHouse core.

• Develop and refine metrics and alerts for ClickHouse to proactively identify and mitigate production issues before they impact customers.

• Investigate the most prevalent issues faced by customers in ClickHouse Core to determine root causes, submit bug fixes, and propose improvements.

• Improve incident response protocols and post-mortem analysis for outages related to ClickHouse core, collaborating with support and Cloud teams to communicate effectively with affected customers.

• Plan, implement, and lead Chaos initiatives across Engineering teams, aligning with internal priorities.

• Oversee on-call procedures to address performance and reliability challenges, establishing best practices for coordinating escalations to resolve issues and reduce customer impact.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Reliability Engineering, QA, or customer-facing engineering roles.

• Prior experience operating ClickHouse or other SQL databases in a production environment.

• Strong understanding of distributed database internals and SQL, particularly with ClickHouse being a significant advantage.

• Proficient in scripting with Shell or Python, with the ability to read and comprehend C++ code.

• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

• Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and solid production debugging skills.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment as part of a global team, viewing yourself as a partner with the business to collaboratively drive progress.
