This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take charge of database architecture, performance, reliability, security, and scalability for essential platform systems.
• Utilize AI tools judiciously to enhance database analysis, documentation, query optimization, troubleshooting, and workflow enhancement.
• Develop database strategies for both single-tenant and multi-tenant SaaS environments, including migration plans between different tenancy models.
• Enhance tenant isolation, ensure customer-specific data separation, improve scalability, and create compliance-ready data architectures.
• Evaluate and refine schemas, indexes, queries, migrations, and data access methodologies.
• Tune SQL performance, optimize indexing strategies, execution plans, and address database bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Data Engineering on schema design, data modeling, migrations, pipelines, and performance-critical application modifications.
• Assist in defining database strategies across OLTP systems, OLAP workloads, reporting layers, and data pipelines.
• Reinforce database security protocols, including encryption at rest, field-level encryption, column-level encryption, key management, access controls, and auditability.
• Set practical standards for database migrations, rollback planning, production readiness, monitoring, backups, and disaster recovery.
• Facilitate load testing, capacity planning, and performance benchmarking for vital workflows.
• Work alongside DevOps on AWS-hosted database infrastructure, environmental strategy, access controls, and cost optimization.
• Over 7 years of experience in database administration, database architecture, data engineering, or backend systems engineering.
• Extensive experience in supporting production databases for SaaS, analytics, data-intensive, or customer-centric platforms.
• Proficient in utilizing AI tools as part of database engineering, analysis, documentation, troubleshooting, and workflow enhancement.
• Experience with single-tenant and multi-tenant SaaS architectures.
• Solid understanding of tenant isolation, shared database models, dedicated database models, and hybrid tenancy strategies.
• Extensive experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or comparable systems.
• Strong expertise in SQL performance tuning, indexing, query planning, schema design, and database internals.
• Familiarity with OLTP and OLAP strategies, particularly regarding the separation of transactional, analytical, reporting, and pipeline workloads.
• Exposure to data engineering, including experience with data models, pipelines, warehouse or lakehouse patterns, ETL or ELT workflows, or analytics infrastructure.
• Knowledge of database encryption methodologies, including encryption at rest, field-level encryption, column-level encryption, key management, and secure access controls.
• Proven experience in designing database systems that cater to diverse industry, regulatory, security, and compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with cloud-hosted database environments, preferably AWS RDS, Aurora, Redshift, or related AWS data services.
• Ability to operate independently in a lean, fast-paced engineering environment.
• Excellent communication skills, particularly in articulating technical trade-offs, risks, and recommendations.
• Strong sense of ownership, sound judgment, and capacity to create order from ambiguity.
