This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +34 more states.
• Take ownership of and enhance the reliability, performance, security, and scalability of production database systems.
• Oversee database monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve intricate database performance and availability challenges.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on schema design, indexing strategies, query optimization, and secure database change management.
• Spearhead technical planning for database migrations, upgrades, scaling strategies, and operational enhancements.
• Enhance infrastructure-as-code, automation, observability, and consistency across database operations.
• Establish and maintain database runbooks, operational standards, and criteria for production readiness.
• Engage in, and when necessary, lead database-related incident responses, post-incident evaluations, and remediation strategies.
• Work alongside security, compliance, and delivery teams to fulfill customer, regulatory, and vetting obligations.
• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, DBAs, and operational teams.
• Advocate for database reliability considerations in architecture reviews, roadmap planning, and customer-readiness dialogues.
• Assist in building the operational framework necessary to support UK police customers and future UK public safety partners.
• Extensive professional experience in administering MySQL or comparable relational databases within production settings.
• Profound experience operating cloud-hosted database platforms, ideally AWS RDS, Aurora, or Azure database services.
• Strong proficiency in database performance tuning, query optimization, replication, backup, recovery, and high availability strategies.
• Experience in designing and managing database infrastructure for complex cloud-based software applications.
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code, automation, observability, and production operations.
• Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, networking, security, access controls, and operational risk management.
• Capability to influence engineering teams and direct database design choices across various services.
• Strong incident management abilities and sound judgment during high-pressure production situations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to articulate complex technical trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven ability to mentor colleagues and enhance team-wide technical practices.
• Eligibility and willingness to fulfill UK police vetting requirements for customer-facing public safety roles.
