This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee, monitor, maintain, optimize, patch, and resolve issues related to Azure SQL Managed Instances, SQL Server on Azure IaaS, and associated SQL workloads.
• Assess and troubleshoot database health, performance, connectivity, availability, replication, synchronization, storage growth, blocking, deadlocks, and transaction throughput.
• Implement and uphold indexing, statistics, query tuning, and capacity management practices for high-volume transactional databases.
• Manage and address issues with Azure Data Factory pipelines and SQL integrations.
• Oversee, monitor, and troubleshoot Azure SQL Elastic Jobs.
• Support Azure analytics services, including SSRS, SSAS, and SSIS.
• Monitor and troubleshoot Change Data Capture, SQL Agent processes, retention behavior, latency, and downstream dependencies.
• Configure, test, monitor, and resolve issues with Azure SQL failover groups, failover/failback operations, and replication.
• Execute planned maintenance, database deployments, schema modifications, and production updates through established change control processes.
• Create operational documentation, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and disaster recovery runbooks.
• Lead or take part in managed services projects that align with customer goals.
• Interact directly with customers during incident responses, change requests, meetings, and status updates.
• Maintain documentation and PSA system records, including weekly timesheet submissions.
• Assist with audits, compliance initiatives, on-call rotations, and technical escalations.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5 years of experience in supporting Microsoft SQL database environments.
• A minimum of 2–3 years of experience managing production SQL workloads in Microsoft Azure.
• Proficiency in supporting Azure SQL Managed Instances and SQL Server on Azure IaaS virtual machines.
• Strong understanding of backup and restore strategies, high availability and disaster recovery, and performance tuning and optimization.
• Experience with large or intricate database environments, high transaction volumes, and replication/synchronization workloads.
• Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Elastic Jobs, Azure Analytics Services, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, and CDC.
• Experience with version control tools such as Git, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
• Strong discipline in documentation and change control.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% annually.
• Participation in a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours and holiday support.
• Ability to meet utilization targets set by leadership.
• Must successfully complete a CJIS background check upon hire and annually thereafter.
• One or more database-related certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate.
• ITIL v3+ certification or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
• Familiarity with documentation platforms like IT Glue, Autotask, ServiceNow, and others is preferred.
• Experience with database automation or scripting is preferred.
