Database Administrator, Mid-level

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• In the role of a Mid-level SQL Server DBA, you will be responsible for configuring and maintaining environments featuring AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), Log Shipping, and Replication;

• You will identify I/O, CPU, and memory bottlenecks;

• Your tasks will include analyzing execution plans, pinpointing unnecessary Index Scans, designing effective indexing strategies, and addressing deadlocks and lock escalation problems;

• Ensuring that the backup policy (Full, Differential, Transaction Log) aligns with the business's RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective) while regularly testing and validating restores is essential;

• A profound understanding of query execution will be necessary to assist the development team in optimizing code, stored procedures, and triggers;

• You will troubleshoot efficiently using tools like Extended Events, Query Store, DMVs (Dynamic Management Views), or Profiler;

• Analyzing data growth patterns, planning capacity, and recommending infrastructure enhancements or historical data archiving will be part of your responsibilities;

• You will be expected to utilize PowerShell or T-SQL scripts to automate repetitive tasks, such as integrity checks with dbatools/DBCC CHECKDB and reindexing.

• Management of SQL Server environments will be required;

• You will plan and implement:

• Backup and restore strategies;

• Maintenance plans for indexes and statistics;

• Installation and configuration of SQL Server;

• Security administration, focusing on:

• Object-level permissions;

• The principle of least privilege;

• Basic encryption methods (TDE, encrypted backups);

• Conducting performance analysis and troubleshooting;

• Utilizing Query Store to:

• Identify plan regressions;

• Force plans when necessary;

• Employing Profiler and Extended Events for troubleshooting;

• Handling replication, including:

• Transactional replication;

• Snapshot replication;

• Bi-directional replication;

• Supporting improvements in database architecture;

• Collaborating closely with development teams.

• A Bachelor's degree is required;

• Intermediate proficiency in English is necessary;

• Basic knowledge of Spanish is advantageous;

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL and Oracle is a plus;

• Understanding of Power BI is preferred;

• Knowledge of Pentaho is beneficial;

• Familiarity with Zabbix and Grafana is desired;

• SQL Server certifications are a must;

• A minimum of 7 years of experience with SQL Server databases is essential;

• An ownership mentality is important;

• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required;

• Willingness to travel is necessary.
