This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Oversee system design and architecture evaluations for large-scale data warehouses and web-scale data analytics applications.
• Architect and implement data and AI analytics applications in cloud environments at scale.
• Develop and uphold architectural documentation, including Architecture Decision Records.
• Create data lakehouses, data models, and integration patterns for databases and data as a service.
• Provide technical guidance for scaling intricate data storage, processing, and deployment projects.
• Employ DevSecOps, AIOps, and MLOps methodologies.
• Monitor and mitigate technical debt associated with data storage, processing, and site reliability.
• Establish technical health metrics and enhance technical onboarding in collaboration with Engineering Managers.
• Promote reliability, performance, security, sustainable engineering, and code quality practices.
• Decompose complex technical tasks into manageable deliverables.
• Advise teams on data access, storage, deployment architecture, and development methodologies.
• Mentor and coach engineers in data warehouse, processing, and SRE architecture.
• Contribute high-quality code to critical or complex components.
• Assist SRE teams with stability, automation, and scalability efforts.
• Conduct architecture-focused code reviews.
• Support engineering recruitment and technical evaluations.
• Collaborate with Engineering Managers, product management, UX, and other technical architects.
• Resolve cross-team dependencies and synchronize technical roadmaps with product and business objectives.
• Manage the lifecycle and toolchain of data components from design to deployment.
• Balance hands-on technical implementation with architectural duties.
• Develop software that impacts data privacy.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in data warehousing, database management, or data processing and analytics.
• Demonstrated experience in architectural or technical leadership positions.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud data warehouses, including BigQuery, Redshift, Synapse, and Snowflake.
• Extensive experience with lakehouse platforms, such as Apache Iceberg, Databricks, Delta Lake, or Hudi.
• Profound understanding of Kimball, Data Vault, or dimensional data modeling.
• Familiarity with Parquet or ORC columnar storage formats.
• Strong command of batch and stream processing architectures.
• Experience in deploying AI analytics at scale.
• Understanding of SRE principles and practices.
• Proficient in Terraform for infrastructure as code.
• Expertise in containerization and orchestration using Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.
• Proven ability to lead architectural design and provide technical direction for engineering teams.
• Capability to influence without formal authority and drive technical decisions across teams.
• Experience in technical mentoring and coaching.
• Skilled in creating architectural documentation, design documents, and technical specifications.
• Track record of enhancing technical health metrics and minimizing technical debt.
• Experience in cross-team collaboration and dependency management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
• Experience in stakeholder management and aligning technical decisions with business context.
