Data Migration Engineer

📋 Description

• Formulate and implement detailed strategies for the migration of RIS data.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to collect and evaluate migration requirements.

• Retrieve clinical, operational, and administrative data from outdated RIS systems.

• Evaluate and map legacy data structures, which include patient demographic records, diagnostic radiology reports, scanned documents, and future appointments.

• Assist in compiling and loading the RIS system’s master lists, which consist of referring physicians, insurance providers, procedure codes, billing codes, and organizational structures such as practices, sites, rooms, and other master lookup tables.

• Utilize ETL tools to cleanse, transform, and prepare data for migration.

• Offer post-migration support for product go-live implementations.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, encompassing customers, IT personnel, compliance officers, and third-party vendors.

• Document the entire migration process, detailing methodologies, tools, and reports.

• Train personnel on how to manage, access, and utilize data in the newly implemented RIS system.

• Conduct thorough validation to ensure data completeness and rectify inconsistencies.

• Perform post-migration verification and create comprehensive reports for stakeholders.

• Identify and resolve issues related to migration, such as data inconsistencies or system compatibility challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, healthcare informatics, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.

• Over 3 years of demonstrated experience in data migration within a healthcare setting.

• Practical experience with data manipulation and/or migration within RIS, PACS, HIS, and EMR systems.

• Expertise in ETL processes, database structures, SQL, and healthcare data standards.

• Strong SQL skills and experience in database management. The proprietary software product is supported by MS SQL Server, along with proficiency in Transact SQL, triggers, functions, stored procedures, database schema design, SQL agent jobs, and ad hoc querying.

• Utilizing the aforementioned skills, work with various data formats such as CSV and other delimited text files, Excel data, SQL databases, Word documents, BMP/JPG files, and PDF files. Ad hoc manipulation tasks may include converting formats, renaming files, moving files, parsing files, and data cleansing.

• Excellent technical communication and interpersonal skills, with the capability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels within the organization.

• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.

• Ability to adapt to continuously evolving projects. This role demands a high degree of self-motivation, self-management, initiative, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Occasional off-hours work is necessary to perform migrations during off-peak system times.

• Attention to detail with a commitment to data accuracy and security. Comfort and willingness to handle, analyze, and scrutinize large medical record datasets is crucial to maintaining high data quality standards.

• Proficiency in C# for Windows desktop programming or Python, or similar programming languages to enhance internal data migration tools.

• Familiarity with Linux OS and scripting (Python, Perl, VIM, BASH) to aid in ancillary data migrations occurring in Linux environments.

• Mirth skills, particularly with HL7.
