Senior Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Design and manage data marts that encompass operational, advertising, and telemetry data, aimed at analytics, reporting, AI, and operational applications.

• Ingest and process large-scale event data from client applications, ad tech platforms, stitcher services, ad servers, and telemetry pipelines.

• Clean, harmonize, and integrate data from various systems with differing schemas, identifiers, grains, and timings, resulting in conformed dimensions and shared definitions (users, sessions, devices, content, campaigns, impressions).

• Link identity and sessions across client, server, and ad-side events to facilitate precise user, content, and revenue analytics.

• Investigate data incidents comprehensively—from a dashboard anomaly back through marts, transformations, and raw event logs—and implement lasting solutions.

• Create, support, and enhance visualizations in collaboration with analysts and stakeholders, ensuring dashboards are accurate, efficient, and reliable.

• Set data quality standards—testing, monitoring, alerting, and maintaining freshness and volume SLAs—so that issues are identified before stakeholders encounter them.

• Document datasets, lineage, and business logic to empower consumers across analytics, product, and ad operations to self-serve confidently.

• Collaborate closely with analysts, data scientists, ad operations, product teams, and source-system owners to convert business queries into robust data models.

• Develop and enhance new or underutilized datasets both internally and externally.

• Analyze extensive and complex datasets to identify patterns, generate actionable insights, and develop initiatives aimed at improving business KPIs such as usage and revenue, as well as defining new metrics and KPIs for tracking these initiatives.

• Partner with all business functions to foster transparent, data-driven decision-making.

• Contribute to identifying daily variances across multiple platforms.

• Lead investigations and analyses for complex strategic projects.

• Collaborate cross-functionally on enterprise-wide programs with Engineering, Broadcast Operations, Finance, BI, and Data Engineering teams to enhance performance and profitability.

• Research and disseminate information on the latest tools and best practices.

• Mentor engineers and analysts in SQL, modeling, event data, and engineering best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Economics, Statistics, or a related technical field.

• Over 5 years of experience in data engineering, focusing on building production pipelines and data models.

• Proficient SQL skills, including performance tuning for large-scale event datasets.

• Strong experience with cloud warehouses or lakehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks).

• Familiarity with JSON, Parquet, and similar file types.

• Proficient in Python for data processing and pipeline development.

• Experience with dbt or an equivalent transformation framework.

• Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow.

• Hands-on experience with high-volume event data—including clickstream, telemetry, and ad impressions—encompassing deduplication, handling late-arriving data, sessionization, and schema evolution.

• Comprehensive understanding of dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, slowly changing dimensions, and data mart design.

• Proven ability to harmonize data across multiple source systems with conflicting schemas, identifiers, or grains.

• Experience in debugging data quality issues throughout the entire stack—from BI tools to warehouses to raw event logs.

• Comfortable working directly with BI tools (e.g., DOMO, Looker, Mode), both in consumption and in supporting their development.

• Strong analytical and logical reasoning skills.
