Data Engineer Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Uruguay.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and nurture a team of Data Engineers dedicated to data and ML infrastructure.

• Design and execute technical strategies for scalable cloud-based MLOps.

• Build the essential engineering framework needed to support machine learning models throughout their lifecycle.

• Manage data pipelines, ML infrastructure, deployment processes, monitoring, automation, and CI/CD.

• Collaborate with Data Science leadership to transition models smoothly from development to production.

• Establish engineering standards, best practices, and reusable patterns for ML and data engineering.

• Influence architecture and technical choices related to cloud data and ML infrastructure.

• Create the technical groundwork necessary for future agentic architecture and AI initiatives.

• Assess technical methods and technologies based on scalability, reliability, maintainability, and delivery requirements.

• Balance immediate delivery needs with long-term platform and architecture investments.

• Offer technical mentorship and guidance to Senior Data Engineers.

• Work together with Data Science and other technical teams to convert requirements into scalable engineering solutions.

• Clearly communicate technical decisions, risks, dependencies, and progress to stakeholders.

• Foster a culture of engineering excellence, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive professional experience in Data Engineering.

• Strong practical experience with cloud MLOps.

• Proven track record of leading and mentoring Data Engineering teams.

• Deep understanding of cloud data architecture and machine learning infrastructure.

• Experience in designing and implementing production-ready MLOps practices.

• Comprehensive knowledge of model deployment, monitoring, versioning, automation, and ML lifecycle management.

• Experience in making technical and architectural choices for data and ML platforms.

• Solid engineering fundamentals and capability to engage in technical discussions with senior engineers.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

• Ability to balance technical strategy with hands-on execution and team leadership.

• Professional experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a plus.

• Experience with agentic architectures or AI engineering is desirable.

• Background in helping organizations establish the technical foundation for future AI initiatives is advantageous.

• Experience collaborating closely with Data Science teams to operationalize machine learning models is beneficial.

• Experience defining long-term strategies for data and ML platforms is a plus.
