Data Analytics Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Drive business impact and enhance decision-making by establishing a robust data foundation for a top-tier analytics function.

• Take ownership of and manage the data transformation layer.

• Design, create, review, and deploy SQL models that convert raw data into valuable data products.

• Collaborate with Data Engineers to add, model, and publish new data sources within the data warehouse.

• Monitor the data warehouse to identify opportunities for enhancing operations, accuracy, quality, coverage, integrity, structure, and usability.

• Convert vague business requests into structured data models and define business rules and edge cases.

• Implement strategies to enhance data quality, lineage, access, and retention across source production databases.

• Manage the data dictionary, documenting tables, columns, data flows, definitions, and calculation methodologies.

• Diagnose and resolve data-related incidents.

• Review code produced by teammates and provide constructive feedback.

• Collaborate with Business Analysts, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and business process owners.

• Empower end users to effectively understand and utilize data.

• Enhance agent playbooks, documentation, and data warehouse tools.

• Contribute architectural insights for the data environment and pipelines.

• Assist in establishing the Business Analytics Center of Excellence and improve data warehouse usability for analysts and AI agents.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Engineering or a related technical discipline.

• A minimum of 4 years’ experience in an Analytics Engineer, Data Engineer, or Data Analyst role with a track record of delivering production data models.

• Advanced SQL skills and a working knowledge of Python.

• Proficiency with LLMs and agentic coding tools, such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar.

• Experience with cloud data warehousing solutions like BigQuery or Snowflake.

• Solid understanding of modern transformation frameworks, such as dbt, Dataform, SQLMesh, or comparable tools.

• Proficient in Git, including branching, pull requests, code reviews, and conflict resolution.

• Strong familiarity with orchestration tools like Airflow, Cloud Composer, Dagster, or Prefect.

• Understanding of Jira, ticket hygiene, code review best practices, and the importance of verifying LLM-generated code.

• Experience in exploratory/raw data analysis, data modeling, and data governance.

• Proven ability to translate business logic and objectives into SQL code while aligning data and analytics with business strategy and operations.

• Familiar with BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI.

• Detail-oriented, methodical, and thorough in approach.

• Excellent relationship-building and collaboration skills.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, particularly in simplifying complex issues.
