Data Analyst I – Geospatial, Water Resources

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Acquire, cleanse, and integrate geospatial and hydrologic datasets on a national scale.

• Develop and maintain repeatable data-processing scripts in Python and SQL, ensuring version control.

• Conduct QA/QC checks on produced geospatial products and model outputs.

• Identify, assess, and escalate any spatial and attribute discrepancies.

• Compile validation and reference datasets sourced from field-verified and independently mapped information.

• Generate accuracy summaries, confusion matrices, and regional/class error rates.

• Create tables, figures, maps, and summary statistics for technical memoranda, monthly reports, and client review meetings.

• Manage metadata, data dictionaries, and versioned data releases to ensure reproducibility.

• Utilize S3, GeoParquet, cloud-optimized GeoTIFF, and Zarr formats in data handling.

• Collaborate daily with partner-organization analysts and developers to maintain data standards and facilitate hand-offs.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, computer science, geography, GIS, environmental science, hydrology, engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.

• 0–2 years of professional or internship experience in data analysis, data engineering, or software development.

• Proficient in Python for data-related tasks, including familiarity with pandas.

• Competency in SQL and working with relational databases.

• Knowledge of Git and experience in collaborative code reviews.

• Proven track record of taking a technical project from raw data to a polished, documented result.

• Ability to produce clear technical documentation for non-specialist audiences.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Must successfully pass a federal background check for facility and system access.

• Experience with Python geospatial libraries or a strong willingness to learn them quickly.

• Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or PostGIS.

• Knowledge of national public datasets such as NHD/NHDPlus HR, National Wetlands Inventory, SSURGO/gSSURGO, 3DEP, or NLCD.

• Proficiency in R for statistical analysis and reporting.

• Coursework or project experience in machine learning, particularly in image segmentation, classification, or training-data curation.

• Experience in building ETL workflows on AWS, including S3 and automated pipelines.

• Understanding of Clean Water Act aquatic resource jurisdiction, wetland delineation, or environmental permitting data.

• Prior experience with federal contract work and government-reviewed deliverables.
