Dam Safety Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Create Dam Safety Surveillance and Monitoring Plans, Technical Information Documents, Dam Safety Surveillance and Monitoring Reports, and other necessary technical documentation.

• Engage in dam safety inspections and oversee surveillance and monitoring tasks, including but not limited to detailed gate inspections, penstock inspections, bathymetry surveys, topographic surveys, monument surveys, and dive inspections.

• Participate in Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) annual inspections, Part 12 Periodic Inspections, Comprehensive Assessments, Potential Failure Modes Analysis, and Risk Analysis.

• Timely review of surveillance and monitoring data with follow-ups as needed to address potential or real-time issues, ensuring dam safety.

• Aid in the planning and oversight of small civil construction projects to meet design intent and ensure projects are executed according to plans and specifications.

• Perform engineering analyses and develop designs for minor repair and remediation projects.

• Coordinate and participate in meetings, calls, and project inspections with FERC and other regulatory agencies to ensure adherence to regulations.

• Support periodic dam safety training for Operations Staff.

• Evaluate Public Safety Plans and Emergency Action Plans and assist with these tasks as required.

• Respond to and assist operations personnel with dam safety concerns and emergencies at project sites.

• Contribute to program enhancement projects to foster continuous improvement.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

• Willingness to travel as needed, up to 30%, to various operational sites.

• Ability to independently prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines.

• Proven skills in successful problem-solving, both independently and as part of a team.

• Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with a desire and capability to collaborate with all Eagle Creek staff, including operations, maintenance, safety, compliance, and management teams.

• Self-motivated individual with a natural drive to achieve success.

• Knowledge and understanding of FERC and relevant State Dam Safety regulations (Preferred).

• Basic understanding of structural, geotechnical, hydrologic, and hydraulic engineering principles and applications (Preferred).

• Familiarity with dam instrumentation, including various types of piezometers, inclinometers, etc. (Preferred).

• Professional Engineer (PE) license/certification or intention to pursue licensure (Preferred).
