Customer Engineer, BigQuery

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hungary.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the technical integration for a set of enterprise clients — guiding them through onboarding, configuration, and incorporating Rabbit into their GCP environment until they achieve their first measurable savings.

• Serve as the primary technical contact during any disruptions — analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to data discrepancies, pipelines, and BigQuery cost inquiries.

• Provide guidance to customers on GCP cost strategies — including BigQuery reservation models, slot management, and billing mechanisms — and explain how Rabbit aligns with their needs.

• Conduct technical Q&A sessions, troubleshooting workshops, and hands-on training with customer teams.

• Communicate feedback from the field to Product and Engineering — you will have more insights into customer experiences than anyone else, and the core team will build upon your findings.

• When the product cannot fulfill a specific customer requirement, create a tailored solution to address the need — the aim is always to integrate that requirement back into the platform rather than maintain custom solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years in a technical, customer-facing capacity — such as Customer/Solutions Engineering, Professional Services, TAM, or similar — with substantial hands-on engineering experience, beyond just advisory roles.

• Extensive knowledge of BigQuery — including slots, reservations, pricing models, INFORMATION_SCHEMA, and query optimization. This is a mandatory requirement; we will assess this skill.

• Proficient in SQL, with the ability to work comfortably in backend code (any programming language) — sufficient for integration, scripting, and debugging within a customer’s environment.

• Practical experience with GCP — you have engaged with production workloads on Google Cloud.

• Strong customer-facing instincts — capable of managing a technical discussion with an enterprise team independently, without needing support from an Account Executive.

• Proficient in using coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) in real production scenarios — beyond just demonstrations.

• Ability to work autonomously — in a small team with no middle management, you are responsible for customer outcomes.

• Strong advantage: background in GCP cost management, FinOps, or cloud billing optimization.

• Familiarity with BigQuery reservation models, slot pricing, and workload management.

• Experience with infrastructure-as-code, specifically Terraform on GCP.
