CTO – Experienced Startup, Hands-On Rust

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Define and steer the long-term technical architecture of the platform.

• Direct backend architecture and infrastructure strategy utilizing Rust-based systems.

• Assist in developing scalable systems that support feeds, messaging, live updates, video, and data infrastructure.

• Supervise engineering direction across backend, frontend, infrastructure, and product systems.

• Collaborate closely with leadership on product and corporate strategy.

• Establish engineering culture, recruitment standards, and technical execution methodologies.

• Engage directly with engineers on architecture evaluations, trade-offs, and implementation choices.

• Contribute to the design of future financial infrastructure, including rewards, wallets, payments, and crypto-related systems.

• Support AI-driven systems encompassing translation, recommendation, search, and football history infrastructure.

• Ensure scalability, reliability, performance, and security across all systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7–15+ years of experience in software engineering and technical leadership, preferably within startups or rapidly growing consumer technology platforms.

• Strong practical engineering background with active participation in architecture, systems design, and production codebases.

• Extensive experience in constructing and scaling modern consumer platforms that feature real-time systems, high concurrency, and significant user engagement.

• Proficient production experience with Rust in developing asynchronous backend systems and distributed infrastructure.

• Comprehensive understanding of backend architecture, APIs, event-driven systems, databases, caching, and scalable infrastructure design.

• Experience in building or managing one or more of the following:

• Social feeds and microblogging systems.

• Messaging or real-time communication platforms.

• TikTok-style video or media infrastructure.

• Financial, wallet, fintech, or gambling infrastructure.

• AI-powered consumer products.

• Large-scale SEO or content infrastructure.

• Ability to make pragmatic technical trade-offs balancing scalability, performance, speed, maintainability, and operational simplicity.

• Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams while remaining deeply technical and hands-on.

• Comfortable operating in fast-paced startup environments characterized by ambiguity, shifting priorities, and limited processes.

• Strong communication skills with the capacity to articulate architectural decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Demonstrated entrepreneurial judgment, ownership mentality, and focus on execution.
