CTO, Co-Founder – Startup, Rust

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Define and guide the long-term technical architecture of the platform.

• Lead the strategy for backend architecture and infrastructure utilizing Rust-based systems.

• Assist in developing scalable systems that support feeds, messaging, live updates, video, and data infrastructure.

• Oversee the engineering direction across backend, frontend, infrastructure, and product systems.

• Collaborate closely with leadership on product and overall company strategy.

• Establish the engineering culture, hiring standards, and processes for technical execution.

• Work directly with engineers on architecture reviews, trade-offs, and implementation choices.

• Contribute to the design of future financial infrastructure, including rewards, wallets, payments, and crypto-related systems.

• Support AI-driven systems encompassing translation, recommendation, search, and football history infrastructure.

• Ensure scalability, reliability, performance, and security across all systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7–15+ years of experience in software engineering and technical leadership, preferably within startups or rapidly growing consumer technology platforms.

• Strong hands-on engineering experience with active participation in architecture, systems design, and production codebases.

• Extensive experience in building and scaling modern consumer platforms that involve real-time systems, high concurrency, and large-scale user engagement.

• Proficient in production Rust, focusing on asynchronous backend systems and distributed infrastructure.

• Thorough understanding of backend architecture, APIs, event-driven systems, databases, caching, and scalable infrastructure design.

• Experience in building or operating one or more of the following: social feeds and microblogging systems, messaging or real-time communication platforms, TikTok-style video or media infrastructure, financial, wallet, fintech, or gambling infrastructure, AI-powered consumer products, large-scale SEO or content infrastructure.

• Ability to make pragmatic technical trade-offs that balance scalability, performance, speed, maintainability, and operational simplicity.

• Proven experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams while remaining technically engaged and hands-on.

• Comfortable working in fast-paced startup environments characterized by ambiguity, changing priorities, and minimal processes.

• Strong communication skills, capable of articulating architectural decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
