Credit Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee the underwriting process for conservation finance loans, such as Forest Resilience Bonds (FRBs), by fostering collaborative relationships with borrowers and performing due diligence.

• Execute credit and financial statement analyses to support the investment process.

• Work in conjunction with the Blue Forest Project Development team to establish, manage, and adhere to transaction timelines.

• Develop and sustain Excel models and analytical tools.

• Collaborate with Portfolio Managers to integrate transaction data into fund models, plans, and analyses.

• Aid in the design, development, and finalization of conservation finance funds, investment vehicles, and strategies: Assess conservation finance opportunities via desktop research, internal and external networking, and stakeholder engagement.

• Play a role in business development and partnership initiatives alongside the Project Development team, the Director of Conservation Finance, and other senior leaders.

• Oversee conservation finance investments by tracking loan-level financial performance and compliance while maintaining financial models.

• Manage the flow of funds and information between Blue Forest and its counterparties, including loan principal and interest payments; liaise with the Accounting team as necessary.

• Cultivate and sustain vital counterparty relationships.

• Engage in ongoing discussions with the Blue Forest Project Development team and other stakeholders regarding investment strategies, risks, and upcoming opportunities.

• Assist in managing conservation finance portfolios and facilities: Monitor portfolio-level financial performance, facility deployment, and compliance with governance processes; manage financial models.

• Coordinate risk management protocols and address issues with problem loans.

• Assist with investor reporting.

• Continuously enhance and gradually take ownership of Blue Forest's financial practices, processes, systems, and documentation.

• Support Blue Forest Communications, Fundraising, and other teams in crafting written content related to conservation finance.

• Contribute to both ad hoc and structured internal training sessions on financial topics.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in finance, private lending, investment management, structured finance, impact investing, or conservation finance, encompassing some or all of the following:

• Experience in conducting private credit analyses, ideally concerning nonprofit, government, or other social sector borrowers.

• Strong expertise in financial modeling.

• Previous experience in negotiating loan agreements and conducting financial due diligence.

• Preference for candidates with knowledge of portfolio management, risk management principles, and facility/fund governance.

• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with borrowers, portfolio management teams, investors, legal counsel, and cross-functional internal partners.

• Exceptional presentation, negotiation, and written and verbal communication skills.

• Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills, capable of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.

• Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset and a passion for climate resilience and sustainability.
