This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• In the role of Credentialed Veterinary Technician at APC, you will act as a reliable resource for both pet owners and veterinary professionals, collecting case data, evaluating toxic exposures, offering guidance through established protocols, and working collaboratively with veterinarians and toxicologists to ensure favorable outcomes.
• You will oversee medical cases initiated via telephone, email, and other electronic channels from practicing veterinarians, pet owners, and others.
• Gather comprehensive case histories and provide precise diagnostic and treatment recommendations tailored to the caller's professional level and based on APC's established protocols.
• Record exposures and risks, and communicate detailed treatment recommendations according to protocols and verbal instructions.
• Perform follow-up calls to pet owners and veterinary clinics as necessary to gather additional information regarding the outcomes of specific cases.
• Actively engage in on-site, off-site, or virtual training, which includes participation in monthly support staff rounds.
• This position is remote within a specific region. Candidates must be located in the U.S. and live within a 350-mile radius of the ASPCA Office in Champaign, IL for the duration of their employment.
• Veterinary Technician credentials (required) in the state of residence, such as CVT, LVT, or RVT.
• Must secure CVT credentials in Illinois within one year of hire.
• Capability to manage emergency and/or difficult situations with compassion and consistency.
• Ability to apply sound reasoning and make informed decisions.
• Proficient in communicating effectively with concerned, emotional, and apprehensive callers.
• Skillful in de-escalating situations and maintaining a professional demeanor during challenging or heightened interactions.
• Capacity to build and sustain effective and collaborative working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and the public.
• Must be detail-oriented.
• Exceptional internal and external customer service skills are required.
• Strong interest in toxicology is essential.
• Must interact effectively with others and exercise sound judgement when dealing with individuals in sensitive situations.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are necessary.
